Title: Changing my pin for security reasons.....
Post by: jetskikiller on September 20, 2013, 12:44 pm
Hi Roadies,

So, I am about to make my first purchase on SR and decided to change my pin for security reasons as advised by SR. I tried this a few times and it doesn't seem to work for me. I now only have 2 attempts left. I scoured the forums looking for info and no joy. I hope someone here can help me out if they have a little time to spare :).

My details are all correct as i have them written down for the moment as i haven't done anything against the law(yet). Hope you're all doing well. Stay safe

Well, it will automatically reset your pin after 5 attempts.  Remember, your pin is case sensitive, so make sure you're entering it correctly.

Thanks for the prompt reply cirrus. I am entering it correctly, I'm sure of that. What happens when my pin resets? Will i have to wait a few day before I can make a deposit? I only ask because I have some BTC tied up in a tumbler waiting to be sent to SR and I don't feel comfortable leaving it there for to long.

Or, what the hell, should i just send it to my SR account without changing my pin as advised and spent my money double time. Thanks in advance :)

If it does reset it takes 72 hours to receive the new pin.  So yeah, your account and the BTC's in it will be locked for that time frame.  I don't know why your pin would work for orders but not for resetting itself?  Odd.

It seems a strange one for me also, got 2 simple orders so far and no problem. The moment I want to deposit some coins in my account it doesn't work. Murphy's Law i suppose :) Nevermind, the journey continues.....

Once again Thanks for your help and time cirrus. You legend :)

So you have used your pin to make orders but you can't change it? you should message SR support so they can look into it, might be a bug in the system that needs fixing.

Hi SSBD!

Yes, i made two orders with it so far. They were kinda ebook and elink orders but they went through without a hitch. I'll message them now as, like i said to cirrus, I'd rather not have my BTC left on a tumbler site for 3 days while i get a new pin. Thanks for the advice SSBD :)

What do you mean a "tumbler site"? your coins are only tumbled before they are deposited into you account, they don't continue to get tumbled once they are deposited.

Anyway post back when you hear from support, I'd be interested to hear what they have to say.

Sorry my terminology is obviously wrong. When i said "tumbler site" I meant sites like blockchain and bitcoinfog before i deposit to SR. Ill keep you updated for sure about my problem. A weird one for sure. :)

UPDATE:

So, I was contacted by SR admin with a generic "copy and paste" message. They just pointed me to the WIKI about changing the PIN.That wasn't good enough IMHO and I got back to them looking for more info and they replied that if the PIN is not working I need to reset it. They also said that If I am entering my PIN correctly and its still not working then I must have compromised my account. I didn't compromise my account as I save SR login as a bookmark and always keep an eye on the URL after all the warnings here.

It seems that the only option I have is to take the 72 hour pin reset and hope everything works out after the time has expired. It seems a bit unfair to me as I used my pin 2 days previously without any problems and now I have to reset just when I'm about to make my first (proper) buy. The only explanation SR admin gave me was that it was my fault, or that it was just not working and I have to reset.

To be honest I think I'm left with more questions than answers.

Does your pin still work now though? you said you could use it to make purchases but when you try to change it it says you have entered it incorrectly, is that an accurate description of your issue?

Bottom line though given PIN resets are automated if you are having an issue you might as well just bite the bullet and reset it, SR admins cannot change your pin manually.

Hi SSBD,

Yep, that's a perfect description of the issue. Worked twice before and not anymore, I didn't visit a phishing site either. I would have known, or at least I like to think I would have known :).

I came to that conclusion myself today, a bit disappointing but it's no biggie really. I plan on being in this revolution for a lot longer than 72 hrs anyways. My only real worry now is that I have my coins on another site waiting to transfer to SR. I just hope that they will be safe for another 72 hrs...

Finally, thanks for all your help SSBD. Your a good listener :)

Stay safe roadies
