Title: usps tracking
Post by: mayimilani on September 19, 2013, 11:54 pm
I was wondering if there is a privacy issue with looking up or giving out tracking information. I ordered a product 8 days ago, and it was shipped out the following day via USPS priority. The product still hasn't arrived. I asked the vendor for tracking information, and he refused, citing privacy concerns, and refused to look up the number himself because he said it was difficult to look it up anonymously. The vendor has great reviews both on his page and in the forums, so this seems a little strange. Are his concerns legitimate? Do I have to take this to resolution?

Well if it's too dangerous for even the vendor to look up for you then why would they even put tracking on it to begin with?

There are legitimate reasons for the vendor not wanting to give you the tracking details. Under normal circumstances some vendors do not give out tracking details because it can compromise their shipping arrangements, if LE ordered multiple times from a vendor they could then map the tracking updates to try and find their location or gather further information such as CCTV footage from where the orders entered the mail system.

However if your order is long over due then they should by rights pass the tracking on so you can see what is going on, you can easily safely check tracking by using a VPN. There is speculation that checking tracking with Tor can flag the shipment leading to a seizure, how much truth there is in that though I don't know, I would always err on the side of caution and not risk it if it is not necessary.

Have they checked it? they should at least be able to do that.

im going through the same situation at the moment. i ordered something on SEPTEMBER 3 and it did not arrive. the vendor made me wait 10 days before he reshipped. on the 13th he claimed to reship. and i still haven't received that package. i love this vendor i have never had a problem before.  this vendor will not use priority  mail at all only domestic. so no one has tracking its frustrating because i have no clue where those packagbees with my address are. i dont know if le has it or if its being held somewhere its fucking frustrating i just want my package and all of this could be avoided if they used a mailing service where tracking is avaliable

im having a similar issue as well. order is late, vendor refuses to give out tracking# or update me with status, even though i ordered with priority mail for that reason. vendor is also highly rated with perfect reviews....being an ebay seller myself it burns me up that a vendor wouldn't attempt to help a buyer simply by giving an update("If you have any questions or problems please contact. I'm willing to go above and beyond to keep my customers happy." quote from his vendor page), i mean i did pay extra for priority...this is also my second and LAST order with this vendor, the first order went perfectly with 2 business day delivery. I made another order already with a diff vendor when i realized it was going to be an issue, should arrive tomorrow.

Depends on how many customers you have breaking your balls for the tracking info or updates I guess. Most vendors will either just give you the tracking on hold it back and only release it if there is a dispute in resolution.  You order probably just didn't ship when you were told it had, something that will be very obvious on the tracking.

this is my exact thought, he marked in transit when it never shipped..especially when he updates his page with an "out of stock" msg 2 days after putting my order in transit.
