Silk Road discussion / Re: Looking to become a vender!
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:48 am »
there are tons of ways to turn bitcoin into cash. Mostly, the cost depends on how anonymous you want to be. If you dont care about anonymity, then transfer your money on mt. gox to your dwolla account then to your bank account, this only costs .25 cents plus mt. gox fees which are about 1/2 percent.

Or go thru Liberty reserve and you could be spending between 7-10 percent. But, you have many more options and have the opportunity of being somewhat anonymous.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Vendors & updating the BTC price
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:43 am »
I have heard of vendors changing the pricing all day long. This still wont be 100 percent accurate due to the weighting that SR does. Thats one thing Ive never understood. Ill post an item for 60 dollars but it shows for 67 (before commissions, etc)..It should even out at the end of the day...

Security / Re: SR Anonymizing BTC transfers?
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:29 am »
Im sure the SR admins have thought this thru. Again, the way i see it is that everyone coins are put into one huge account. Im assuming that SR also is a bitcoin miner. These coins are added to the "pool" when sr transfers money out to you btc address, it creates dummy addresses as well. While leo would have to be very motivated to find a btc that came from SR. then they would have to prove to a jury (i can just see them trying to explain what a bitcoin is to a 70 year old grandmother) that bitcoin was used for illicit purposes and prove that it was you. Thats a lot of work.

On top of that, if you move your bitcoins from SR to a couple of computer wallets thru tor over a couple days in random amounts. this just makes things that much harder to trace. (not too many people want to go thru this trouble, but if your that worried about it, I would)...

While the bitcoin is not 100 percent anonymous, its pretty damn close if you do it right...Its the closes thing we have to anonymity so far.

Basically, SR is adding extra layers of protection. Just thinking about it makes me have a headache, lol..

There is PGP whole disc encryption for MAC, very similar to TrueCrypt, but it's closed source and non-free. This is still the best option for MAC as far as I know.

Or maybe use some LiveCD distro when dealing on Silk Road.

Symantec owns it. It would be easier just to buy an external HD and encrypt it with truecypt or pay the 80 dollars a year or whatever symantec charges....or use thumbdrives w/trucrypt

What Galterr said. DCN IS NOT tracking. Its proof of delivery. While sometimes it gets scanned at every stop, the majority of the time it wont show for a couple days. Ive had many DCN's show up after the delivery was made. I only will give it out if its late or there is an issue or I know the buyer. There really isnt a reason to give it out. Ill give it out to ease the mind of nervous buyers but the less that people enter DCN or tracking numbers in the usps website the  better. And DONT use TOR when checking it...

Silk Road discussion / Re: How do you get scammed WITHIN escrow?
« on: January 28, 2012, 10:29 pm »
As a vendor, I've been scammed a few times.  I can do one of two things. 1. argue with them and wait til sr steps in and my rating gets a hit or 2. fulfill their demands. i have been fulfilling their demands up til now. If I am 100 percent confident that they received their full order, I wont be held hostage any more. Im very careful on how i order. I have made mistakes, and the one or two times that I really did make the mistake, I was able to verify it.

But most of the scamming is because its done out of escrow. Granted, i have seen good vendors turn scammers, but they are a very small minority. Most good vendors dont want their name ruined. but the only way i can see getting scammed in escrow is a dirty vendor sending an empty package or not sending it at all. Doesnt make much sense to me as they wont last long. But, I think we need some sort of feeback or something when it comes to buyers. Its nice to have the info that vendors know have regarding a buyer. But we still need a feedback system.

Soon, I will be limiting orders to new buyers. the stuff that I sale is very expensive for me to purchase, so its not easy to replace an order, thats why I always do DCN and take very good care in my packaging... Still, though, overall, the scammers are a very small percentage...

Silk Road discussion / Re: Gawker SR article update
« on: January 28, 2012, 02:34 am »
I deleted his thread the second i saw it. I think he even mentioned that in his article. Yes, if guns are going to bring more heat, then I say get rid of them. Id rather have my doc than guns... Im thinking that SR is down because they are going to pull the guns and make some changes, if it were because of traffic, some of us would eventually get in, i havent heard one person making it in...

When vendors or buyers speak to the media, all it does is give them more words to put in the article. This just pisses me off..

Security / why is mt. gox having these issues?
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:28 pm »
I have tried to transfer out a couple thousand over the past week. Normally, its transferred asap. But, these last two are taking forever. the response that I've got from Mt. gox is that they cant transfer money until there is enough money in the account. WHAT???? They also said that there are a lot of people transferring money out and it may take some time..

This isnt my problem. My money is my money. If i want it now, I should get it now. This makes me  nervous. it reminds me of what happened in the great depression. people withdrew all their money until there were no more. If they are having issues completing withdrawal requests, then I suggest they put a limit on the amount that can be withdrawn in a day or whatever. This is unacceptable...

Security / Re: MtGOX WTF?? Serious security flaw!
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:42 pm »
thats why I have a yubi key...worth the 30 bucks or so... (even though I think they should give them for  free) the only bone that I have with mt. gox is that you (the customer) has to keep good records of all incoming and outgoing money/bitcoins. They dont seem to be able to catch their own errors.  the last month, I would have lost 3k dollars had i not kept good record and let them know that my money never made it to dwolla.

I guarantee they collect a lot of money by unsespecting customers. Keep good records and tell them asap when you notice a discrepancy... I dont trust them as far as i can throw them, lol.. So far, they have fixed all their "mistakes"..
