Title: How about Silk Road Offically Backed Bitcoin Vendors
Post by: chews13 on January 03, 2013, 02:55 am
Some sort of away that silk road backs certain vendors like an official vendor of bitcoins via which ever method. That way there is a secure place to exchange funds that stays annoymous as possible, but guarantees that if we send funds we will receive our funds. Charge a resonable fee or whatever. Also gives vendors safe place to exchange their coins for the funds that sellers send so vendors stay protected better.

Yea I understand what you are saying but what I'm meaning is a person that SR vets then SR gurantees that they can be trusted and if a problem does turn up they step in review and pass judgement to whom they see is right. Because they have some btc vendors with good feedback yet they selective scam and not to mention the ones that never mark item in transit so buyers can't even post their feedback. Also not saying that other vendors couldnt sell btc they would just fall into normal vendor category.

Ya I just got scammed out of my last $ available :\ another good idea is maybe a reverse escrow that forces vendors to put their coins in escrow at the accepted price ... Like seller orders btc post and tells how much they want to spend then buyer accepts their request for x amount of btc and their coins go into escrow once vendor gets paid they release im sure that would help put alot of buyers at ease and help seller reputation

5hunna500 .... Good feedback and no bad forum reviews at the time now there is atleast 1 other sitting on side of the road without the ride they were hoping to catch. Maybe someone can send a bus and pick us both up. Yes reported and started posting hoping to help someone else not get taken. Other then that username earning a bad reputation does anything get done and also if sr cancels their account didn't they make enough $ to open new account.

This wouldnt work out. Some of the biggest, most trusted vendors have gone scam on this site and the uproar and whining was unbearable.

SR starts officially endorsing people who are human and could easily wake up one day and say "fuck it, im cashing out" and they are gonna be in merky waters.

I never said it was a perfect Idea but how about the reverse escrow idea? It's not like I actually believe these will come to be but it's still away to bounce ideas around and maybe something could stick

Exactly.

This would work if SR took a large collateral, which they would only return after you closed your account and a week passed without confirmed scams. That would disincentivize the fly-by-night scammers as well as the scam-on-the-way-out scammers.

This would NEVER work, not even with SR holding a bond.

How about people getting it into their heads that bitcoins are not illegal, and to stop buying them using moneypaks and so on. Just use a legitimate anonymous service, that is NOT on SR, and get your bitcoins there. Almost every country has several. Even the backwater of Australia has two that I can think of off the top of my head.

See in the past there was a exchanger that was as close to officially backed as possible without actually being hired and paid to be a staff member and that ended horribly, the biggest problem with all the little problems is you have to find an anonymous person you can trust with the large scale power that comes with these solutions. I mean for every issue not full proof fixed you have to have a loyal trustworthy individual and that is just not possible for DPR to invest all his eggs in these baskets without personally controlling the issue so the SR vendors are basically outsourced solutions that are only temporary fixes.
The biggest issue DPR personally handles is the tumbler and the account balances and as long as he can manage it then all the little inconveniences can be overlooked until proper long term solutions can be arranged. It's a never ending list of what is the highest priority issue to handle on any given day.

In general I believe if you have any doubt about a SR vendor exchanging BTC's then you are better off to obtain your legal BTC's from legitimate currency exchanges if you want a 100% guarantee. Of course then complaints about instant access come up and the entire situation tends to cycle back to the SR vendors and convenience vs. reliability.
