Title: Any BTC vendors accepting moneypak?
Post by: overman on November 20, 2012, 12:58 am
I don't see any of the old sellers on the "money" section anymore...there's "Captainmal" but his offer sketches me out. I used to go to Sugar Mama but she has no listings for it.

Is there any services I can use for a bank deposit? Bitinstant doesn't have that option for me and Bitme.com seems okay but a little too new for me to trust.

Only looking for about $120 in coin sometime this week.

Once I become more trusted than my old account, I'm going to set up a BTC service where I accept MoneyPak.
I would tumble the coins, and then deliver them, for a small fee.
However, I am not currently that trustworthy so I won't offer it.

Other than that, I would try to find someone who will exchange your MoneyPak to LR, and then you can convert that LR to BTC through Mt Gox. Its fairly safe.

I know the feeling...it's a 'dicey' area anyway, even on good days, as we've no protection at all, and I've been where bigass scams have come down in that area...but after TradeHill went down, and the outside sites folded, and MtGox started wanting way too much 'id' and shit, I too have to try different people...lately nobody I know on there, for moneypaks...so I went with CaptainMal and he came thru like a champ.  Yeah, he does have some requirements, but I didn't mind'em...that's because buyers have ripped some of the vendors off, and having a picture is a bit of protection I guess...

But anyway, CaptainMal did me right, and it's moneypak, it's slim pickens right now ;)

@phubaiblues

I may try him later if I can't find anything else. What I don't understand is why he would need a picture- in the past, I always believed that in moneypak-for-BTC, it was buyer beware: the only person capable of scamming was the vendor. If you didn't get your coins, it's your loss because it is out of escrow.

The moneypak cards (If I remember correctly) say on them that law enforcement will review store cameras in illegal cases. If he has a picture of the receipt, he know the location and the time of purchase. And that scares me.

What exactly is the aversion to using bitinstant?

What exactly is the aversion to using bitinstant?

My own ignorance, and laziness to find a method other than cash deposit at a bank (which I heard was easy but doesn't appear on their site for me).

I'll research the best method to use them if I can't find a vendor

Try Chronic Crew. They've had good reviews in the past.

Hop on tor, and go to blockchain.info
Create a new wallet, using an identifier you will remember
The link for your wallet you should bookmark is blockchain.info/wallet/(youridentifier)
Go to bitinstant.com and select cash deposit to btc address, select a location close to you (preferably WalMart).

-Here is where it depends on how anonymous you need/want to be. Not all of these steps are necessary for everyone.-

IF YOU USE ANY FAKE INFO REMEMBER IT
Fill bitinstant in with fake, or real info and continue. Put in your blockchain.info btc address. They will transfer you to zipzap to print out your payment slip.
You may or may not want to use a printer that isn't traceable back to you (I've heard this can be done, not sure).
Wear gloves while handling the paper if you want, and go to the place you selected. You may or may not want to wear unidentifiable clothing, sunglasses, and a hat.
If you go to walmart, pick up a blue sheet from the moneygram center (gloves on if you want) and fill it out. Give the worker the blue sheet/cash, and you're done.

Go to blockchain.info and you should have bitcoins. Go to send coins, and for a 1.5% fee you can make it an anonymous send to "clean" your bitcoins. Whether you choose to do this is up to you. Now put in your SR address, and you're good to go.

Oh yeah, I hear you: didn't much like it myself, but I figured, well, the guy was helping me when nobody else had surfaced, and also, it's not illegal to buy bitcoins...I kind of like investing in the suckers, often jump up...but I"m checking other sources too, and I'll post if I find anything...I'm looking into these guys: https://bitme.com/ but I haven't tried them.  I was used to sending pictures, one of the earlier bitcoin providers wanted a picture of the deposit slip,, but I haven't tried these yet....

And I hear you on bitinstant...I've actually used them before, but it has turned into a real ordeal, and now dwolla and even bitinstant and dwolla want all kinds of picture ID and 'verification' so I'm forced 'outside the loop' my own self....every time I get one setup figured out, I seem to have to learn another one...that's why so many of us liked Paypal, was it's simplicity....best wishes to you!

Give Sugar Mama a try! It will take her about 24 hours to process but she gets the job done!

Neither Chronic Crew nor Sugar Mama currently have listings for selling coins, sadly.
