i saw that thought it was cuz i was on tor tho.. did u use clearnet?
-
woot woot
-
looks like they were just testing it out or something?
Cock teases! You can't get on BI at all right now, so hopefully that will be back to normal by tomorrow.
-
BitInstant is still down and Obama being president isn't going to change a muthafuckin' thing. IF IT DID WE WOULDN"T HAVE TO USE BITCOINS!!!!
-
was up for a bit this morning, now down again
-
crycrycry
My quickbitcoins.net is gone, my bitinstant is gone, and the big BTC vendors seem overloaded/won't respond
Looks like no goodies for me and my love this weekend :'(
-
This is terrible I can not come up with one way to get coin on here and I really fucking need some stacks on their today!!!!
-
It is working right now, but they are asking for your full name and date of birth for the bitcoin to email option. This is blasphemy!

I've never used that option.. actually only used bitistant once but I would do CVS to Mtgox... which is not working for me??? What is this bitcoin to email address?? I just cash to MtGox then to wallets then to the Road??? Someone please explain??
-
Bitcoin to email is just that. They send it through coinapult and you then send it to your bitcoin address. I've never used that method so I'm not much help there. :/

bank deposit still isn't back.
Also, looks like access through tor might be blocked as I get a "your ip is banned" message when I try and access through tor. not sure if they've blocks all of the tor exit relays or not though.
-
BitInstant is broken for me right now, I can't get a payment processed and I'm a little upset.
Anyone else unable to reach the site right now?
EDIT: I just called their office. They said it was a DDoS issue and they should be back up within a couple of hours.

No problem dawg. I would want someone to share that kind of information with me if I didn't know, so it only seems right.

This is most likely, an event of the DDOS mitigation.

Man, I knew it was too good to be true. Four transactions in and the dream is dead... :'(
I was able to process a BitInstant cash transaction after refreshing like a tweaker for 5 minutes and even received the ZipZap confirmation but never received the BitInstant confirmation email that I've received in the past so I chickened out.
RIP BitInstant. We hardly knew ye.
-
CVS Moneygram -> MtGox still works as it always has.
You can safely use that for personal quantities of anything really, few hundred bucks is fine. Not sure what we're gonna do with large deposits though.

I'm sure they'll be back up and running soon.
I said the same thing about Demonoid.
Mt Gox scares the bejeezus out of me. I loved the simplicity of the cash to drug BTC transaction.

CHEERS
-
The site wont load for me. Please tell me im not the only one having this problem. Sometimes it will load the home page and i will click my deposit option and send it to my mt.gox but when i hit the enter button the page would not display
-
what are u guys talking bout ??
it loads fine for me..
-
It's still down.
I'll be calling again today if the problem isn't resolved by lunch time.
-
I got on it fine, but the bank deposit option is still not there and most of the BTC venders on here are not active or the price is just to high
-
well when you fill everything out at least for me it wouldn't go to anything but a blank page i consider bitinstant dead
-
As of now 12:25pm pacific, bitinstant will not allow me to access it with tor, instead I get this message:
Access Denied
The owner of this website (www.bitinstant.com) has banned your IP address (xx.xxx.xxx.xxx). (Ref. xxxx)

I can however access bitinstant with my clearnet browser and works like it used to except now they ask for a full name and birth date. I guess I could buy some BTC anyway then launder it, but I think I'll wait and see what develops.
I'd much rather aquire my BTC with total anonymity start to finish, maybe another vendor will step up and accept Tor connections. Don't know if this is helpful or not but it's an update at least.
-
Update to my update:
I just refreshed the denial of access page and it now it's working fine. Accessing bitinstant through Tor is now working, but they are still asking for a full name and DOB for a deposit to btc wallet address. I'm going to try a fake name for a bank branch cash deposit, let you know how it goes later.
-
Doh! Now I really feel stupid. After I filled out the form and clicked "send funds" I got another ACCESS DENIED screen which does not change by refreshing it,
I guess Tor is dead to bitinstant now. Oh well back to square 1
-
yeah bitinstant is dead try bitcopia.com or quickbitcoins.net no personal info needed
-

actually, quickbitcoins is dead for the moment as well. previous owner "surrendered" it to a new owner. no ETA.
yeah i was wondering why the site had been down all day which fucking sucks i couldn't get any coins all day and i just got paid and bitcopia messaged back like 10 min before the bank closed and said its good now bad day today
-
how come u guys dont use mtgox?
thats what i do.. works fine.. just use it on clear net and send funds to instawallet that u set up on tor..

All of these websites suck for information.

how do i use clear net??? trying to find it
-
According to their support team, if you can get as far as the zipzap payment slip, they will process the order although it may be delayed. As of right now, the moneygram options seem to work although it may take a few tries.
Has anyone been able to successfully place a bitinstant order today? Or is something odd going on?
-

I lol'd, but can someone offer a step by step process using mt gox please. Im desperate to gain coins as well.
-
It appears that as of 10:00 am EST BitInstant is up but no Tor friendly. It can be accessed by Explorer or Moxilla or whatever. I will say that I placed and order and while they confirmed payment I looked at the block chain and there were no deposits in my wallet. I emailed them waiting a response

Was the major bank branch option available?

I haven't gotten past the front page, every time I click send funds I get an error on the start_tx page.
Pm me when it goes back up and I'll do the same for you, I really need some coin.

I wish I could get to ZipZap, that's exactly what I need. I just can't load the start_tx page for some reason. This is holding up a $1000 purchase, quite frustrating.

Damn, I dunno what to say. Im on a mac using safari. If that would make a difference?
-
The site is up, at least occasionally, and you can get as far as the zipzap slip (if lucky) which supposedly works according to their staff.
Can anyone confirm that they actually received coins from BI today using zipzap?
-
I JUST DISCOVERED A PROBLEM WITH MY BROWSER THAT MAY AFFECT OTHERS TOO
I opened BitInstant with FireFox instead of Chrome, which I have been using, and there is a captcha box on FireFox that I cannot see in Chrome. This was causing the problems for me, and after resolving this issue I can place orders normally.

Can't depend on bitinstant anymore.
mt.gox AFAIK is an exchange and you can't deposit money into mt.gox directly can you?
if you haven't already, go ahead and get an account at dwolla and link it to your bank account. it won't be much good for 30 days but set it up now so you have it as an option in the future.
campbx.com might be an option. Very low commission.
just use your real info on these sites. sorry about tumbling or whatever later.
-
Dude just create a BTC e-com account, works just fine...

Yeah, I had a Dwolla account, from my old days with TradeHill, but after TH folded, I just would buy from people on here, dangerous as that is...but I"m thinking I got ripped today, or at least, as of yet, no answer from SmartCoin, so I went ahead and signed up with MtGox...
Easy to sign up, hard to get 'verified'...and unfortunately, if you aren't 'verified' at MtGox (give id, all that) then you can't do a direct deposit with Dwolla, and have to go thru BitInstant...can't win for loosing...actually, I also have an account at OKPay, since when TradeHill was going under, some of us couldn't get our money back, without an account there...and verification not needed on mtGoxes side, with OKPay...but you have to use all kinds of crap to get verified on OKPay itself...
Never ends...
-
I'm ridin' out this shit storm with the rest of you. Hope it's at least back up by morning! ::)
-
Dude just create a BTC e-com account, works just fine...
BTC-E still requires the usage of Bitinstant, and therefor you still can't use bank deposits, so what good would that do?
-
i didn't have any problem accessing the site through Firefox .... however, one of my two payments to bitinstant for ~$500 has not shown up in my blockchain wallet and it has been 4+ hours.
also can't get a hold of support through email, phone, or PM on bitcointalk.org ..... so i'm out ~$500 and i really have no idea whether or not i'll ever see that money again. :(
I have not seen one of my payments from earlier today as well, it has been nearly 12hrs. I really hope it's just an overnight payment issue.
-
so frustrating. try sending them a PM on bitcointalk.org .... apparently when you send 2 transactions, they say the fraud filter catches it and may not release it. i don't quite understand b/c i've done multiple transactions with them before and never had an issue ... but whatever.
finally, after 5+ hours and multiple emails, they did send my second transaction through manually.
you may need to harass them until they do the same for you.
from the looks of it, another person at bitcointalk had the EXACT same problem tonight. ugh.
I haven't had a reply yet; if I don't see it in the morning they will be definitely getting a few more emails.
-
bitinstant is typically on top of answering support requests so I'm guessing they are just busy as hell getting everyone fixed up right now.
I have no idea why they don't post more information to their website. It would cut down on a lot of the support emails/calls.
I think they are legit but having some difficulty. The $500/day limit plus the commission cost is too much for me anyway so I'm looking elsewhere.
-
Has anyone used BitInstant since it came back up and successfully gotten their coins?
-
I just tried using Bitinstant to get some coins. The following is my experience, I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this?
The Bitinstant site itself seems to work fine. I first begin by selecting "Cash Deposit ---> Walmart" and "Bitcoin Address"
After providing the requested information, I hit "Send Funds"
After recieving a "quote" for my funds I then select "Go!"
It then redirects me to the ZipZap homepage to print the deposit slips and unfortuantely, this is where I run into problems. I enter a Phone # as required and then proceed to selecting a payment center. I then click "Create Payment Slip" and the button becomes greyed out, but a deposit slip never opens for me, nor is one sent to the included email.
Has anyone run into this yet?

Yes seems to happen randomly for me sometimes. Usually waiting until later or even next day and then its fine.

Did you ever hear back from them or get the issue resolved? If it's a result of an error on their parts, they'll usually refund you the fees as well.
Thankfully yes! :) I woke up this morning and saw that the coins were indeed in my wallet. According to support they have a technical issue where some payments get "stuck" and are never released. She forwarded my case to the tech support and I saw my coins without any further contact.
Not sure if this was a one day issue or a persisting technical glitch, I'm just glad I got what I paid for!

MAKES ME FEEL BETTER BOUT USING IT NOW

BitInstant is NOT back to normal. It's dead. They now require your name and date of birth to do OFAC (Office of Foreign Asset Control) checks thru the US Department of the Treasury. It is also not accessible thru tor. I would suspect them investigating fake names or frequent deposits. Wouldnt it be easy for them to get your IP on clearnet? They weren't under any attack, they were busy bending over for the law. All the info is on their blog
http://blog.bitinstant.com/

Only once you have aid your cash and the coin is tranferred will you get an e-mail confirmation. The bit coin form is also asking for phone, dob, full name--no social--so you can be checked against a list of suspected foreign criminals--but wal mart not asking for photo ID--so basically just create an alias.
-
I just successfully proccessed a cash deposit ---> BTC Address. Aside from a minor hiccup (detailed above) it went flawlessly. Here was my exact experience:
Used TOR to create a wallet at blockchain.info
Travelled to a local hotspot in town to complete Bitinstant steps.
At Bitinstant, I chose Cash Deposit (Walmart) ---> BTC Address
I inputted the temp. wallet address, a fake name, fake birthday, and a tormail address.
On the ZipZap page I also inputted a fake phone # and chose a Walmart location.
I saved the generated .pdf, drove home, and printed it.
I then travelled to the Walmart location, and showed the clerk the slip I just printed. She had me fill out a blue MoneyGram slip. This again asked for name, address, and phone #. I used the same fake information on the slip as I did with Bitinstant. Only thing extra that was needed was an address. Before filling this out I told the clerk that I forgot my ID and asked if that would be a problem. She said ID was not needed as long as I was just paying a bill.
I checked my Blockchain wallet 45 mins later and my BTC was there, along with a confirmation email from Bitinstant. A flawless, and anonymous experience thanks to Bitinstant.
Now if only SR was up...
-
I don't think this is a case of BI bending over for the law as much as it is them covering their own asses. I really don't see why they still can't allow Tor IPs to access their site, but I'm sure there is a good reason.
As long as you go to a hotspot (as mentioned above), and use a location that does not check your ID, you're still anonymous and untraceable AS LONG AS YOU DON'T TELL ON YOURSELF!
There's a price to pay for your safety, it just depends on how much you're willing to pay. Me personally, I'm happy to drag my black (or white, or maybe brown) ass to a hotspot to remain anonymous so that bitinstant can stay functioning. I'm sure feds are putting a lot of pressure on these people and we have to think what we would do if we were in their shoes.
Think about it- if they were really trying to track you, they would have added a "MANDATORY TO SHOW ID" step on their processing slips for the clerk. I bet they were just getting pressured and probably even receiving threats from LE and had to respond. And since I already have a trustworthy processing location, traveling 5 min to one of the many hotspots in my area is a small price to pay for anonymity.
-
So is this why anonymous bank deposit isnt an option anymore?
bummer....whats the next best way to get bitcoins with the cheapest fees (as we know w/u takes like 10% and that sucks)
-
@fuckoffehbuddy:
Thanks for posting about bitcopia.com and quickbitcoins.net I didn't find those sites when I search engined "bitcoin vendors". They look like good alternatives to bitinstant. Wish I could give you some karma buddy.
-
@CaptainMal
Yeah but bitcopia is still looking good, what btc vendor do you use? Can't stop the signal...
-
Guys, would the bitinstant to ,moneygram-cvs- walmart, etc; DIRECTLY to bitcoin address still work.? I have no issues getting to the zipzap payment slip. Thanks.

Walmart to bitcoin address is definately my favorite way to fund my account. I was finally able to a get payment slip with bitinstant last night after three days of trying but now im a little concerned with everything going on and believe i will wait until SR is back up and there is confirmation that all is well with bitinstant

Has anyone used bitcopia yet? Apparently it was just launched a few days ago and allows for buying via cash deposit at wells fargo. The "buy" option of the website is only running on certain hours during the day so I was wondering how easy/anonymous this is for anyone that has tried.

What i was saying is that im not going to make the deposit until SR is back up and i see with my own eyes that its all good. Depending on when that actually happens i may or may not have to get another payment slip due the fact that they expire after a certain length of time. i think its 3 or 4 days but im not sure. When i make the deposit i will update in this thread how it all went.

Sweet, tomorrow i will be trying the bitinstant - bitcoin address- walmart method and see how that goes. If that fails I will try bitcopia on Monday. And immediately update here.

Yes someone has had success with it. It was "fuckoffehbuddy". Used bitcopia today. All went smoothly.

I made my first btc purchase the other day through bitme. Cash deposit through Chase, no ID needed, worked like a charm. The only thing is you have to email a copy of receipt. Does anyone see any issues with that? I'm trying to absorb as much of this fantastic underground as I can :)
-
If you want anonymous email then you need tormail.org
-
Thinking about using the Walmart method considering BitInstant was pretty good with my bank deposits when those were still offered.....
Basically just a question if ID is required or not if I'm understanding this properly......
-
Based on what I've heard, every location is different about their ID requirements. My local Moneygram provider has never asked me for ID. I have a whole fake name, number, and address. I use the same one every time and they've never asked for ID. I mean hopefully anonymous bank deposits become an option again soon, but until then you can definitely make do.
-
A thing to keep in mind when choosing your processing location with Bitinstant:
TRY TO PICK WHOLE IN THE WALL CHECK-CASHING JOINTS.
When you're finishing your ticket on bitinstant, it shows you a bunch of places that process their orders. I stay away from big corporate chains where employees fear punishment for not following guidelines. Granted, at Wal-Mart you will likely get a redneck who doesn't care, anyway, but I still like the small, independently owned check cashing places.
At the check cashing joints, they are mostly all owned independently and a lot of the times the owner or family member of the owner is working the register. And, the owners of these places are less likely to be as red about asking for ID.
What I like to do is this:
1.) Pretend like I don't know they're getting a small commission for processing the ticket.
2.) Before anything has begun processing, offer them an extra $5 ($10 if it's a larger amount) out of "gratitude".
3.) If in the rare case they ask for ID, either say you forgot your wallet or it was stolen. I like the stolen wallet excuse because then you can give them the whole "that's why I'm using this bill pay option because they don't require ID, blah blah blah". It invokes pity and they will appreciate the gesture of paying the xtra $5 so they will feel guilty if they turn you away for not having a damn ID,
4.) 9/10 times they will tell you not to worry about it and process your order.
5.) Also, they hardly ever accept the extra $5, and will tell you they get a small commission anyways.
But, fore me, I've been lucky enough to find an owner of one of these places that is a liberty-minded person (Ron Paul posters all over the place), and we've established a pretty solid relationship so I don't have to dance the dance any longer. I feel kind of bad, though, because he only knows me by my alias and he is a very decent human being (he's offered me no interest loans before), and I am basically manipulating him. But, I would rather feel a little guilty than compromise my anonymity :).

+1 Nellion
I too use a local business that processes Moneygram because they don't check ID. I've never tried Walmart or CVS, but I've heard that some employees at those locations will give you a hard time. The best thing to do is create a new identity for yourself, memorize it, and from now on that's what the workers at that store will no you as. Make sure you practice a signature, it would look really stupid if you couldn't sign your own name.
Also Nellion, that thing about pretending to lose ID is brilliant. That's exactly what I'll do if they ever ask. I doubt most workers would be able to look you in the eyes after you say that your wallet was stolen, and still say no. Excellent idea, and I'll be keeping it in my back pocket. I mean if it ever gets to a point where ID is suddenly required for all Moneygram transactions, I'll probably put up the money for a fake ID. The money I'm making off the Silk Road is worth it anyways.

I made my first btc purchase the other day through bitme. Cash deposit through Chase, no ID needed, worked like a charm. The only thing is you have to email a copy of receipt. Does anyone see any issues with that? I'm trying to absorb as much of this fantastic underground as I can :)
Is the receipt an email, or do you have to physically have to scan a receipt and sent to bitme?

Jesus I typed that like a retard. Is that receipt you get an email after you deposit or do you have to scan a physical receipt and email that to bitme?

If you want anonymous email then you need tormail.org
you can use any email service just make sure you don't access it directly (eg without tor) or use any information in that email account that could trace it back to you (eg giving the email provider an alternative email address that can be traced back to you). Using tormail is kind of a red flag. Just my 2 cents.

I scanned the receipt from the deposit and sent it to bitme through my tormail.

Couple days ago i noticed bitinstant wasn't allowing TOR connections so i visited the site with my normal connection/IP to see if the site was down. Does anyone else visit this site with your regular connection? I didn't enter any info.

MeccaLand is right - It's perfectly fine to use bitinstant with your regular connection - nothing illegal about buying bitcoins.
yeah i tried that too and it still didn't work so just found an alternate way

Alright cool. That's what i figured, just wanting some reassurance. Thank You

just to be safe dont use your home ip.. go to like a coffee shop or public wifi.. They can log your ip to the transaction and if you dont wash the coins i assume they can just trace it back.. i think. although i am way way over the top usually

If you use the cash deposit button on blockchain.info wallet you can use tor and skip the OFAC check.
