Apparently Some sites are down, so here are some alternatives to use in the meantime ;)
www.bitcoin-24.com
www.bitstamp.net
www.dwolla.com
www.campbx.com
www.cryptoxchange.com

Sadly, none of these are instant like bitinstant was... I was planning on making a purchase this weekend, I really don't want to transfer funds into dwolla -> wait 2-4 business days -> purchase off of mt. gox when I could just wait and hope bitinstant will be up later today.

Ahh. Well I don't buy Bitcoins so i don't really know how hard the process is now. I just done some research on some reliable places. Hope it does help :(

Actually, you did help. :) I was looking through your links and following different links when I found this:
http://www.wmxchange.net/
They advertise that they take Western Union/MoneyGram/other payment types and can also change your BTC into the same. Time frame isn't as fast, but it looks promising.

Great! Give it a try and let everyone know how it goes if you do manage to get some coins, also let us know how long it took you to get them :)

Cryptoexchange is relatively fast, but it may be slow at times since they are still on a manual order processing setup so it chugs when lots of people make orders. They're down until they figure out some issues on how their site worked, I believe the owner mentioned it would be up Monday at the soonest.
And Dwolla is a payment processor that recently updated their TOS to not allow buying/selling digital currencies with it unless given prior permission...this doesn't include markets since the markets have prior permission I guess?

Hmm.. Sounds complicated to obtain coins these days. Lets hope people find Cryptoexchange then!

Hopefully they'll be done with their maintenance before I'm ready to order today. BitInstant has been great up to this point, don't really think it's necessary for me to use another exchange service.

Well lets all hope they sort this out ASAP! Things have slowed down :(

You guys don't mind paying that huge commission? (4%) Plus the other fee? Between that and the $500 limit, I don't like to use bitinstant, but have been recently. I will most likely be trying another BTC vendor for my next purchase of coin.
BTW, here is a link to SR's recommended BTC vendors,
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade#Currency_exchanges

I dont want to refer my clients to BTC vendors in case they get scammed.

BEWARE of The Delivery Boy he has scammed me out of $500 and another good SR member out of $1,400 just this past week.
I just used Smartcoin, turn around was about 20 hours and the fee on $75 was like $9 so they were good. Rapid Exchange is also one I have used they were pretty fast and around 10% fee. Hope this helps guys.

Let me know if you find a better option. I need to deposit way more than $500 so I'll have to select the bank option. That's 4.49%+$1 and limited to $1,000 I think. Come to think of it I'll probably do the moneygram $500 + bank $1,000 both if I can on the same day. I just need another SR wallet so that they don't connect the two together.
If there a fee for moving money from one SR wallet to another?

Theres no fee to move coins to another wallet, just waiting.

be a little careful with cryptoxchange ... there are some less-than-favorable reports about their service over at bitcointalk.org.
it also looks like several people have been having problems with campbx.
you guys, be careful out there! make sure you read up on specific places ... bitcointalk.org is a great place (on clearnet) to check first.
Thanks for all of the info CaptainMal!

No more deposit to bitcoin address or bitcoin email? :s

Hey guys
Check out the Bitinstant website. It is back up, at least for me it is.
-
Its probably only down temporarily, I have seen this happen before, usually back up in several hours..
-
Shit... they're back up, but no bitcoin to email now? FUCK. Definitely a setback. Going to email them to see if this is temporarily or permanent.

Bitinstant is gone, forever.
No more instant, and no more transfers to to bitcoin. They will if you'd like transfer your cash to Mt.Gox, but it's not instant. It takes 1-2 days now.
Thanks to Bitinstant for showing the federal reserve how it all works at the North American Payments Association conference in Brazil. >:(

Thanks for mentioning that NAPA escapade, hadn't heard of it, so I'm gonna do some research. But about your first point, not sure that's true. If you're just running the coins through a few instawallets, you can still get your btcs to SR in a few hours. At least that was my experience Fri. Unless in my research I find reasons to view bitinstant as dangerous to my safety/anonymity, I'll continue to use them for the ease of the process.

Have you even tried Mt Gox? Doesn't take that long at all. The whole process takes about the same amount of time and the fees are about the same.
The btc to email will be back, or should be back, today: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=120749.msg1300644#msg1300644

I e-mailed Bit-instant and was told that they will be back up for bank deposits on Nov.1 and transfers to E-mail by Dec.1 at the latest

Dammmmnnn, that's a while. Better than being gone forever though.

The greatest thing about Mt.Gox is when they ask for a copy of a photo ID and your most recent tax return.

I just used Bitinstant today. Granted I could no longer transfer directly to a bitcoin address, I did use another process just an hour ago.
Check it out/

I tried using bitinstant this morning for pretty small amounts in a cash deposit option and whatever amount I set it to, it told me "Orders of $x are not accepted"
Am I doing something just plain wrong here?
-
does anybody use campbx here?
I had sent a money order in the mail a few days ago and their site just went down today. It seems like so many bitcoin sites are dissappearing recently.
-
I just go cash deposit ---->bitstamp works well for me

$20 is the minimum.
I just used Cash Deposit ---> BTC Address and it went thru flawlessly. Had the funds in my wallet in less then an hour.
-
just used bit instant and everything looks fine... its all set up. just gotta go send the cash. used it 3 days ago and coins went in fine
-
i cant believe u guys are too lazy to trade your own currency for bitcoins, i mean do you want someone to come over and cut the meat on your plate, too?
-
support@bitinstant.com told me that their cash to btc address will be down until dec. 1. when i try it through mt. gox, it says "bitinstant internal error". it still does allow moneygram transfers through cvs, walmart, 7-11, walgreens, etc. not as easy, but do-able.
i also hear good things about BTCBuddy and Sugarmama.
It isn't worth anything, however, if we can't sign onto SR. I haven't been able to logon in three days.... :-X
-
take that with a grain of salt, last week they said it would be a few days
there is something going on they are not talking about, i do not know what it is, but there is something going on
and now we have a bunch of ppl with bofa accounts advertising here - all bofa - all linking rl accounts here
maybe im just being noidy - i will admit this - but something smells funny to me, even though it makes no sense
be careful out there guys

campbx has been working for me today. I'm using it without tor. If you were trying with tor then maybe they've added the tor block as well. If so then well hard to ignore that's probably from federal pressure, maybe the secret service (they handle financial stuff).
-
bitinstant.com will not load on tor browser, but loads on chrome fine. no other instant options out there to use moneygram?
I'm trying to get btc but without bitinstant working i dont know how to get them. i heard CaptainMal can sell them but dont know how that works.

You can look up your SR wallet or a different wallet (for mixing) on blockchain and then click the deposit cash button. It uses BitInstant, but it's a little bit more simplified and there's even an option to have the btc transaction anonymous. Not sure why people don't just use this option instead of using the main BitInstant site, which seems to be unstable/unreliable from time to time.
-
would you advise using the same wallet i did for previous transactions or start a new one everytime? and you think i should use a new fake name and all that good stuff everytime? or can i keep using the same name i've been using, whoever that poor fella is.
