Title: Bitinstant cash deposit question?
Post by: goodvibez on February 22, 2013, 04:52 am
Just had a question about getting bitcoins through bitinstant/zizap cash deposit.... I've tried to deposit more than 500 dollars before and it says the limit is 500 dollars, so I've been restricted each time to only being able to get 500 dollars worth of bitcoin, well now I need to get enough coin for over a grand so I'm curious if I'm able to fill out 2 deposit slips at the same time or is there some sort of restrictions on that? Or is there an easier way to do all of that?..... Any input would be much appreciated  :)

you can do that, but you need to do it for two different amounts to be sent to two different btc addresses, and to be safe, use two different sets of info.

otherwise, the 2nd one will get caught up in their fraud filter.

umm you can't use the following with bitinstant at the moment
To BTC Address
To email
BTC-e
Bitstamp

So they are pretty much worthless right now unless you want to deal with MtGox which I personally don't.

Hope the fix it soon.

I did a successful transaction at ziggap.com -> cash deposit at Chase Bank -> BTC address and had my coins in 4 hours.

Well I send my cash deposit to mt. gox, I don't send them straight to a bitcoin address, didn't even know you could do that, but how could I use two different sets of info when the point of it is to go in there and get them both done at the same time, I can't tell the cashier that I'm two different people lol, the last time I went in there I tried using just a different address and she knew right away, so I had to tell her that I moved.... Whats this fraud filter though?  ???

I do use mt. gox lol, how come you don't like to go through mt. gox? Seems to work great for me, never had any problems.

I'm sure mt. gox works fine but I don't use them for a few reasons.  First I don't want to give them all my personal information and picture ID.... yeah right lol.  They will work with LE and I don't want my personal information anywhere, I want to be as anonomous as possible.  Second, if I recall mt. gox has been hacked twice now and again I don't want my info to be stolen.

I also like the services where I don't have to buy coins with the USD deposited, I like the services where you deposit USD and get coins in your wallet.

This Bitinstant outage is a pain in the ass.  I just sold a computer, and I have cash I want to turn into BTCs.  But, it looks like I'll have to wait until Monday to do a Bitfloor deposit.  Is there so little money to be made in that business that only one company is doing cash to BTC transfers via moneygram?

I wouldn't use bitinstant at all at this point. Still waiting for btc for a depost 5 days ago. There reply was that they don't have enough to cover it!!

Some people are using ziggap.com and having good experiences there.

It's nothing like that at all. They are just down till monday because they are upgrading the service.

It is inconvenient to say the least but I never had a problem with bitinstant and will use them when they are back up monday.

So Bitinstant will be back up and functional Monday? I like using them when they aren't fucked up, which is about every 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out ziggap.com, and I don't like Mt Gox for some of the reasons already mentioned above.

Fuck

I had an awesome experience with bitfloor.com - completely anonymous, total control over transaction, all you need is a BofA nearby (used the drive-thru teller) - just as fast as BitInstant

Well, folks, BofA has Saturday hours, so if I can get my BTCs tomorrow, I'm a Bitfloor customer forever!

Their exact words were: "We have a low balance on the exchange that has caused orders to get ‘stuck’ in our system. "

Sounds like they are on low on money to me....

Yea they are saying they will be back up on monday.

I never heard of bitfloor before. How long do they take to get coins? How much do they charge? With all the bitcoin scams I an cautious of new places.

Bitfloor was pretty cool.  I deposited $78 and the total was $79.75.  The money showed up in my bitfloor account immediately.  There you can actually buy/sell bitcoin in any amount, as I only needed 2 BTC to complete a transaction - I made a 'buy' order for 2 BTC and it made the transaction at the current price ($31.48 each?)  I had like $16 left over in USD in the account and 2 BTC in the account.  Then I withdrew to my SR account and it took about an hour to show up (as usual).

The deposit itself was very simple.  I just acknowledged 3 things by checking the boxes, entered the amount that I needed in my account ($78) and it pulled up a screen that had the deposit amount (which you have to make exactly for it to work) and the account number, business name, etc...  So I drove up to BofA, went to the drive-thru teller, asked for an out-of-state deposit slip (I don't live in NY, where the business is based) and filled out as much as I could, put the slip and the money in the tube, sent it to the lady and she gave me a receipt.

My bitfloor account was credited with $78 within a few minutes (5 maximum), that's when I had to 'buy' the BTC I needed (you can either put how many BTC you want to buy or you can say you want to buy $XX worth of BTC) same thing with selling...

I think its geared around people who may day-trade BTC??  Either way, it was very simple for what I needed to do today due to BitInstant being down.

Whole thing took maybe an hour and a half from entering deposit info, driving to bank, trading for BTC, driving home, and funding SR wallet.  WAY CHEAPER than BI...

I'm starting a thread in Rumor Mill to do reviews of exchanges, etc like how we review vendors - I'm going to try to create a list of places (domestic USA) that includes fees, and brief details about the process.  I would love if you would write a short review of your transaction with bitfloor.  I'm going to post this thread in a few places so we can have a centralized place to get info about where to buy bitcoin and not get scammed.

Thanks!!

To me, it doesn't seem very smart to use the drive-thru teller when making these deposits because they get a video record of you and your vehicle.

It doesn't matter.  BTCs are perfectly legal to buy and sell, and the bank conducts this transaction in full view of the public; if anyone was going to worry about liability, it'd be *them*.  Just transfer out of bitfloor to an instawallet, filter through BTCfog, and shazam.  Anonymized.

If you become the target of a narcotics (financial fraud, forgery and uttering, whatever your game) investigation, AND they know you've been using bitfloor at these banks with all the video cameras (the second "if" is rather larger than the first, I think), your attorney will advise you to assert your 5th amendment right to silence.  You are innocent until proven guilty of doing anything illegal with your BTCs, and don't waste time trying to make up an alibi for them (although if you think of a really good one, by all means).  By the time anyone realizes you've done anything illegal (if you even have, and if they ever do!), the bank will have overwritten its video footage a long time ago, anyway.
