Title: Best/easiest method for getting bitcoins (USA - Details inside)
Post by: Psychedelic Astronaut on March 15, 2013, 05:54 pm
So, I really need a new reliable way to get bitcoins.  I used Bitinstant cash > btc addy up until everything started going haywire with them.  Bitfloor and  BlueSkyTraders are out the window for me because there is only 1 BoA within 6 hours of me.  Also, anything requiring a Chase bank could possibly be a last resort, but would not be preferred.

I've used Ziggap successfully twice, but they seem to have fairly regular issues of their own and are still really new.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, this is the only thing holding me back from making more purchases! :(

If you have a Wells Fargo branch nearby, you could try using Bitcopia. I've never had any problems with them.

Yes, I concur.  Bitcopia is the way to go if you have Wells Fargo around.  Excellent customer service.   www.bitcopia.com

Trust me, you want the best way and not the easiest way.  After using several methods, Dwolla -> Mtgox is indubitably the way to go.  The only drawback is having to get verified with mtgox, but this only takes 10 days at the most.  Once you're through, it only costs 25 cents from the transfer.  Whereas with other methods you're going to consistently be losing anywhere from 2 to 5 percent of your moolah!

Verification requires identification which is risky in the black market.  Maybe you have very good fake ID, but I would never undergo verification with my real ID to perform BTC transactions on SR.  Best to pay extra commission, which is on average 4.5% and stay anonymous than risk your ID being exposed.  However, if you do decide to continue to use Dwolla and Mt.Gox with a verified account, maybe a BTC tumbler such as BitCoinFog can be of a benefit to stay anonmyous, even with that extra 2-3% fee.

You have sold your soul, my friend.  I would -1 you, but I don't like it when people do it to me, so I'm just going to pity you a bit.  Okay, now that that's over, what the fuck???  "The only drawback," he says.  I mean, the fact that Mt Gox is known to cooperate with law enforcement, I guess that's not a drawback.  That fact that they demand a photo ID and a utility bill, that's not a drawback.  It's just 10 days, that's the drawback.  And, Dwolla?  They want your bank account!!  What is it you buy on the Road, books?  Porn?  Because, most of us here buy drugs.  And, having your bank account in any way connected with you buying drugs.... well, let's just put this in Barney terms.... that's bad.   And, let me guess - your BTCs go from your Mt. Gox wallet straight to SR, don't they?  Oh, you're going to deny it, but we all know better....

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever.....  ever use the Dwolla>Mt. Gox paradigm.  It is a recipe for conviction.  One day, law enforcement will bring down certain American elements of the Road, and those two entities will play a role.  Fortunately, buying BTC is a legal activity, so some American banks are cooperating with BTC exchangers, and you can do it without leaving a paper trail, if you don't want to leave one.  Why on earth you would choose to create a paper trail, linked to your fucking driver's license, and then make obvious ledger entries in it?

Save yourself, please.  Lie to the forum and tell everyone that you used a fake ID and a forged utility bill with a stealth bank account for the Dwolla.  Please.

If you use Dwolla and/or MtGox to purchase bitcoins you have to send them through a good scrubber/obfuscator service to eliminate their connection to your identity. That costs a bit more and takes longer. Cash is king.

True, indeed.  Despite rumors that they are fraudulent, I have used bitcoinfog many, many times with satisfying results every single time.  It's been fun trying to track my own deposits, and I simply cannot do it.  And I'm me!  If I can't, then I know no one else can.

4theCause, I really was hard on you earlier.  I should have been more chill.  I should have been more like Sash or shadrock, but it was *really* early in the morning, and this is an issue near and dear to me.  Why?  Because I, my friend, have a valid ID and utility bill on record with Mt. Gox.  And, a checking account linked to Dwolla.  Fortunately, ye gods, fortunately, those were but my very first Googled attempts to get BTCs, and before I was verified, I had learned how stupid it was to yield such precious commodities (my real ID and docs) to such fools, and never placed an order.  When I signed up for those accounts, I only knew just enough to be dangerous.  And, if it weren't for the forums, I'd have done some pretty dumb things in my quest for online narcotics.  So, to hear my stumbling in the dark being offered up as wisdom just tore me up.

There is no hell, nor a heaven.  We have but this, my friend.  Make the most of it.

I take no offense from your responses.  And the last thing I want is for any fellow roaders to be in a dangerous situation.  Could you enlighten us to what you believe to be the best/easiest method for obtaining bitcoins?  Also, thank you to whoever popped my positive karma cherry, i think it was on this thread :)

Oh, GOD, THE WORST ADVICE!

I would negative karma you, too, but it is about teaching.

When the words "Tor" and "bitcoins" are used, they should not be in any positive conversation, paragraph, or sentence, with "Dwolla" or "Mtgox".

This is neither the best way or easiest way! First you have to create an account with BOTH services. One of the services is linked to your personal banking information and then when you transfer from your bank to Dwolla, you gotta wait. When you transfer from Dwolla to Mtgox, you gotta wait. Then when you transfer from Mtgox, you gotta wait for it to fund to a wallet. Not bad at this point in the process, but now you got to wait for the wallet to fund to The Road.

All the while you have told the authorities where you bank, where, you live, and how much electricity you use. :o BAD BUSINESS!

As soon as they started talking verification, I used this exact forum to find alternative solutions.

Now, my process is not the best, but it is shorter, safer, and more anonymous than the one you are using. Bottom line is I pay in cash and that's it. It's hard enough out here as it is to keep these authorities out of your pockets and off your trail.

Above all else, anonymity first.

https://www.cryptocurrent/com

OK, this site lets me know that bitcoin is becoming a really, really big deal.

I am just mad that I bought product over the last 30 days. My money would have tripled if I just sat it here on the road, lol.

I have watched this currency go from over 4 bucks a bitcoin to damn near 70 in just over a year! I don't how, but it's going down for bitcoin speculators. Even if you got in now and it reaches 100. That's all I will say.

Anyway, think about it, in a maximum of a 2 years time, you had websites pushing funding services that looked like they were made in Web 1.0 to this site looking like a stock, bonds, or futures traders platform with the clean lines of the layout AND they have the nerve to have PGP for communication.

Hell, fredflinstone, you need +1000.

I have a great exchanger, but the more/progessive options, the better.

Well thanks.  Let's get on with this.

These are my personal prefs, with a little of others' experience salted in.  If you live near a Bank of America, you can use Bitfloor (clearnet bitfloor.com).  All you need is an email.  You might want to carry a fake ID with you when you make the deposit, but I've made over 30 deposits, and have never once been asked for ID, never heard of anyone being asked (just when you set up the deposit you have to tick a box that you'll agree to present one if asked).  You can also use Cryptocurrent at a BofA (clearnet cryptocurrent.com).  If not near BofA, you're probably near a Wal-Mart (or CVS, or half a dozen other retailers), and can use Bitinstant (clearnet bitinstant.com).  The fees are a little high (4% plus a $4 MoneyGram fee), but service is good, despite a recent outage that pissed off the community at large.  Bitstamp (clearnet bitstamp.net) is the European version of Bitfloor, and if you're into more than just buying drugs can be a great resource.  But, they do take Western Union/MoneyGram from the States.  I've never used them for that, so I can't speak to the fee, whether it's like a $4 fee or a $15 fee.  Other will probably chime in.

Others will read this and offer their own prefs, too, or just read through the forums.  We talk about this all the time.  In fact, jshizzle started a a pretty big thread for reviews of services a little while back.  Find it (I don't remember the name, but it's in all caps!!), and lurk awhile.  And, for the love of Thor, stay the hell away from places requiring you to give them a full set of fingerprints and a retina scan before they'll do business with you (Dwolla, Mt. Gox).  And, Cryptocurrent is great, but I wouldn't overnight cash, unless you really have no other options, just because Express Mail is so much more expensive than Bitfloor, for example.

Finally, I wouldn't make a habit out of buying directly into your SR account.  I know a lot of SR veterans do it, and maybe this is just me being overcautious.  But, if you don't want to pay for a service like Bitcoin Fog (http://fogcore5n3ov3tui.onion/), and it's a small fee, at least buy your coins into an instawallet or something, and then maybe bounce a third into another instawallet then to SR, then a third to yet another instawallet>SR, etc., over a couple of hours.  A poor man's laundry service, if you will.  Because we honestly don't know what the DEA knows about the Road, and while we have a certain amount of faith that SR encrypts the addresses it makes available to its customers, or generates them in a logically impossible way to trace back to it, we do know that once unencrypted, BTC addresses can be tracked.  So, routing your coins through a few addresses gives you deniability if someone ever tries to accuse you of buying off the Road.

Just sayin'...
