Title: About Clearnet links
Post by: adamiz on August 06, 2013, 04:37 pm
Hello good people. I wanted to ask a question about clearnet links.

I saw some days ago a post where a user had linked some clearnet links.
He got an answer from another one who aggressively answered to him something like:
"You dumbass don't post clearnet links here without warning everybody that they are clearnet links. Guys like you are the fault that people getting tracked".

I don't use clearnet links on my Tor browser just because Tor is slower. But that message got my attention.
So, is it true what he says? Clearnet links should be open only in your normal browsers? If so, why?

Don't know about this and never read anything to get a clear view. If you can help me and share some valuable info for the community and our safety that would be nice of you.

All the best,

Adamiz

No, it's not true. It's the biggest myth in onionland. Hidden services can supply malicious code just as easily as clearnet sites. Hidden services are not safer than clearnet sites. In fact, we're standing in the wreckage of the biggest attack on Tor users, and it happened from a hidden service!

You should be *more* cautious when visiting hidden services, because the operators, or hackers who exploit the site, know that the users want to be anonymous for important reasons. Most clearnet sites don't give a shit who you are and they aren't interested in deanonymizing you. If you become a nuisance, they'll start using block lists of Tor exit nodes, problem solved on their end.
