Title: pgp4win vs tails
Post by: afflicted on July 12, 2013, 07:16 pm
I am not too sure about tails and have downloaded pgp4win, is this adequate ? I found tails confusing and had trouble with the iso image burn grrr.  I am assuming vendors use a tor e mail address while using pgp4win or tails? security is my prime concern as opposed to portability which I assume is the difference between the 2?

Lastly is it safe to upload photos / files etc.........

many thanks

gpg4usb is simple and there's a guide.

A good one for images is ImgZapr:

Onion Fileshare is good for images and videos:

The Hidden Wiki has a list of hosting sites you can try:

No idea. I found a guide for pgp4usb and decided to use it instead, took a few minutes to figure out.

If you follow the guide, it shows how to make your private key and public key, the public key is only necessary if you want someone to contact YOU with a PGP message, and as a buyer that will never happen really. You can type the message then click your name on the list, encrypt, decrypt to show the examples. Other than that I can't really guide you, the guide helped me figure it out quickly.

Two entirely different animals..... 8)
PGP (either pgp4win or pgp4usb) are simply encryption programs. They are both adequate for SR. For a concise guide to using PGP go to the Wikipedia tutorial for Gpg4win. After struggling for a week I found this and it offered simple direct answers. Above all practice using it w/someone you can trust.
TAILS, on the other hand, is a complete system for stealth use of the TOR network. If you have concerns that someone else may see your use of a specific computer, or if you're using someones computer (ie. not your own computer, at work, at a commercial "web cafe", or your parents computer) definitely use TAILS. It is designed for use of TOR (or anything else) and to leave no trace.
BTW, once you've setup PGP, you should load the PUBLIC KEY you intend to use for SR communication on the USB stick you're using for TAILS so you'll have it if you decide to use TAILS.
There is a very useful tutorial for use of TAILS on USB @ http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=114141.0

Hope this helps.... ;) ;) ;)

Hi, I recommend GPG4USB because I've seen a lot more people have problems with GPG4Win. It seems to be more buggy.

So, I made the tutorial for GPG4USB.

Astor, is there a way to tell the difference between your public key and private key?
