Saw this on the Tor Project site, thought I should post here.
https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en#warning
Under no circumstances is it safe to use BitTorrent and Tor together.
Stay safe 8)

Yep, Tor only carries TCP traffic and the tracker queries are usually UDP, so bittorrent programs either fail or silently bypass Tor so as not to break the experience. They also send your IP address in their data.
But the biggest reason not to use bittorrent over Tor is that it taxes the network. 3% of Tor users are using bittorrent, but they account for something like 40% of the traffic.

Clearify, what he means is, dont Route Bittorrent traffic through tor. You can use bittorrent and tor at the same time.
-
Many bittorrent clients choose a client id that remains the same between sessions. It is sent over to the trackers and peers.

You get shit speed over Tor anyway with the added benefit of bogging down the network. You are better off using a VPN or a seedbox in another country than ever trying to torrent over tor. A seedbox is just about as safe as it gets with torrents and you get crazy speeds. I don't even bother with that. I have a business level connection at home, only use private trackers, and have never gotten a notice in the mail knock on wood. Until then I am not wasting money on a seedbox. If I get a letter with this new 6 strikes policy I might reconsider but it's not likely using only private trackers.
