All we know at the moment is that it is going to be a 'thriller' - http://twitchfilm.com/2013/03/ben-wheatley-is-going-down-the-silk-road-for-hbo.html
Let's speculate about it :) Or maybe we can write them some storylines :D
I think it will fictionalise DPR's creation of Silk Road and its subsequent meteoric rise. It will throw in a few real events (420 Sale&Giveaway, tony76 scam) and will have lots of 'near misses' of him getting caught. It will have another character of the law enforcement officer who has made it his life mission to track down DPR and he will get tantalisingly close, but never quite make it.
It might throw in a friendship/rivalry between DPR and Satashi Nakamoto too.
Anyone else?
-
DPR should sue them
-
DPR should sue them
Hm tor lawsuits, where the plaintiff and/or defendant is anonymous. That would be interesting.

Don't really see on what grounds. A person doesn't own their own story. :)
It would be interesting to know whether it is possible to defame a pseudonymous person though.

OMFG i hope the show is about *this* SR and not the boring old trade route. Also, I wonder what nick Ben Wheatley is using here... PM ME BEN!! hehe, jeez.
i know the show will be fucking awesome just like all the other shows on hbo. i cunt wait to watch :D

Me too! Must admit, I thought there would be more excitement amongst the folk here. IT'S HBO! :D
Maybe I should have put this thread in the Newbie section - give them something more productive to do than spam to 50 posts ::)
-
I speculate it will make this place a lot more popular

righhttt?????
maybe it's bc people here have better things to do (drugs) than watch tv. i know i watch less than i used to, but that's mostly bc i spend my free time around on this forum instead. also can't afford hbo anymore since all my extra money goes towards drugggggggggzzzzzz 8) BUT FUCK i miss it now that 'True Blood' is back on
-
Wohooooooooooo,
TSC best get mentioned
-
The Sopranos was responsible for the takedown of much of the American Mafia in NJ during the early 2000s. Again, I will say press can only be neutral or negative for SR. As DPR has said, we are not strong enough to attack our enemies directly. Throwing our presence in everyone's face is as direct as it gets. Not to mention, this exposure is advertising, which will result in more fools and/or young people purchasing narcotics - a liability to vendors.
There are plenty of publicized and non-publicized cases of children receiving drugs through the postal service. The parent's first instinct is to call the police who in turn notify the federal government.
-
Ugh. I do really hope they don't make any documentary or public discussion about SR unless it's already been shut down. As soon as it goes public, you know that LE will be forced to step in more aggressively. Just like with the clearnet RC market that used to exist (WebTryp, anyone?). We need to keep it OG and down-low.
Much love to the ones keeping it real :)
-
Wonder if Tony76 still lurks these waters
-

never heard of it.
maybe you are right, zip... or maybe hbo is the next stage in the revolution :O

HBO was definitely the next step in the sex revolution, but I highly doubt it will play a part in the drug revolution ;P

The signs point to it being a fictional series, not a doco.
SR has been public for a long time now.

SR has been public for a long time, but not like national major network TV public.
A fictional series would be cool, I'd love to write some of those scripts :D

That's true. In the American press, I can't recall a single printed article. It's all been online coverage. This has the potential to really blow up the community.
-
Publicity is pretty much the only way the feds are going to take this place down. Make everyone rely on this place, and increase traffic to the extent that it destroys the place.
-
I won't be pleased if I don't hear my name given the 20+ damn conspiracy theories flying around about me at the moment. It'd be amusing if it was just a guy trapped on the Asian Silk Road getting chased by bandits for breaking some obscure part of Sharia law.
-

Get in line :D
-
i just don't think that this would make for that interesting of a storyline. i highly doubt the show is about the website... people buy drugs off website made by agorist just doesn't seem the plot of an HBO series to me.

I'm trying to work out if it was non fiction whether it'd be comedy or drama. Most of the drama ends up comedy on here at some point.

It would probably start at MIT or Nippon, sometime around 2008. Maybe even in the 1990s with the housing bubble crash in Nippon, to give a good background on geopolitical economics... Alogn with a parallel story line that follows a trafficker, moving la coca into the U.S., where he gets caught by the Coast Guard, stash seized and the Coast Guard captain leave him stranded each time with no food or water on a sailboat...
Enter Satoshi Nakamoto... never showing his face, but only him working on mathematical theory and comptuer programming, collaborating with a handful of others tirelessly over TOR and i2p. Bring in some of the forum posts and threads... HBO style.
The trafficker, stranded with no water comes close to dying, barely making it back to land before dehydration kills him--eating eyes of freshly caught fish to stay hydrated, and getting a few ounces here and there from trapping evaporation, etc. He gives up on his failing lifestyle and gets a fishing job. Later that year, he comes across an old friend who works on computers. They know each other's history and share a love for sailing, and the computer friend shares the discovery of BTC.... therein lies the origins of the Road.... No more trafficking, and instead, they are now the overseers of the trafficking world...
...
Alternate storyboard: CIA history in Laos, etc. Trafficking, gun running... CIA founded the Road.... to reduce violence and social/political turmoil from the uncontrollable drug trade..... This would ironically give the CIA black market dollars for fighting terrorism... or just getting CIA agents really fucking rich....
-
I'm still rather unsure about the concept. :-\
-
The amount of fucking bullshit I've read in this thread makes me wanna punch a baby in the face.
Unwanted attention?! LE is already aware of SR. There have been fucking news reports about it in every fucking country so it's pretty much public knowledge now. Stop shitting your pants, if LE can't do anything about SR now, that won't change in the foreseeable future.
Besides, it's highly unlikely that an HBO series called "Silk Road" is about a darknet drug marketplace called "Silk Road". Use your fucking brains, idiots.
And even if SR was shut down, people would immediately flock to BMR, Atlantis and Sheep and at least a dozen new marketplaces would pop up, trying to take its place.
-

Balllzy :-* I agree with everything you said (even the baby-punching thing, stupid idiot babies) EXCEPT what i quoted... I think it's very likely... spesh if Ben Wheatley is involved. Boardwalk Empire is a show about alcohol prohibition and it's on HBO. I don't watch it but it's popular.

I still can't see HBO doing a series on a darknet drug marketplace because its potential audience would be way to small but only time will tell :)
-
so what is that tony76 scam everyones talking about? I am relatively new to SR, and never heard about it. Would love to hear more if abyone is willing to tell me the story behind it.

I mean, look at breaking bad...it's pretty damn popular and the majority of people DO NOT consider themselves anywhere NEAR meth territory :P
-
All I know is that i'm dumping some money into btc right before the series starts... If they aren't looking too shady at the time.
-
Hmm. No publicity is good publicity for the Road.
At the same time, I love me some HBO. They seem to produce about 95% of all the good tv there is. I would definitely be interested in what they put together. However, an HBO series means drama, and that means bad things happening to good (or at least sympathetic) people. Hopefully it doesn't end up pushing the fear agenda.

It could be the *basis* for a storyline, with completely fabricated stories. Drama, suspense, intrigue! LE is on the hunt for the operator of the biggest online drug market. Will they catch him?

^^ But then again, there might be a shred of truth in there somewhere.

LMAO
you guys crack me up. I love SR. I love all of you :)
and I'm not high!
-
where is carman sandiago , any one? you must admit there are some paralells. is the story about Cap'n Roberts true? I wonder how this all did get started and what kind of scurvy sea dog the cap'n is. whats his story? i think no publicity is good publicity but I cant say I wouldn't watch the show. maybe we could infiltrate the ranks of the writers and send coded messages write through the script to let all the real sr family know where and when to be while the traditional silk road is turned into a dummy op where an ounce of weed or coke is dealt here and there , probably mostly from LE to LE lol.
-
Has anyone been able to determine speculation vs actual yet??
-
I dont think there have been more news since those you can search for, all were in mid march i think...

The more time we all spend on SR the more commonplace it becomes and especially when we talk about it all day long everyday on here it becomes an 'everyday thing' but MOST people really haven't heard about SR or TOR, drug users and LE do but most people aren't drug users or LE. An HBO series about SR would be cool, probably fictional but if anything this could encourage others to open sites (BMR & Atlantis) and to fight for legalization and essentially join the cause. On the subject of a tv show about SR i am either in favor or neutral but one thing i do know is that i will most definitely watch the first episode.

I concur with your assessment ZipStyle all that will come is more scrutiny and idiots trying to get in on SR before its gone. There was enough discussion last year after the investigative reporting which was done. KEEP SR ON THE DL!
<Mulva takes the podium>
first rule of sr is YOU DONT TALK ABOUT SR
second rule is YOU DONT TALK ABOUT SR
you know some idiot PA (production assistant) will be tasked with drumming up contacts on the road and forums. be vigilant when scrutinizing your PM's as the production will be doing research here in forums without question.
DONT BECOME PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Dolores *COUGH* i mean Mulva ;) I know everything there is to know about television and let me assure you the idiots you speak of do not subscribe to hbo
and FFS the Fight Club ref again... this isn't a fraternity, it's a free market where ALL are welcome :)
@Zip i dare you to go to your nearest KFC and ask for a side of meth with your chicken :P

It is about Sr as in this SR. Just click the link in the OP and it tells you about the SR "deepnet blackmarket online drugs forum" blah blah.
you can tell there will be a million kids searching youtube on how to access sr, fucking pain in the arse and then it will be police pressure to close it down again.

Mmmmmmm while it would be pretty cool to watch it I must admit that I would like it to be kept downlow ... I just think it would be the end of sr ..... in that case I have to buy all my shit before this show comes out ....

I agree with everything you just said. Also, once, a KFC a few miles from me got shut down because they were selling pot and heroin through the drive through. "A number four and a number twenty" got you an eighth and "extra forks spoons and napkins" got you a 1/4 gram of H. they got caught when some people needed extra forks spoons and napkins and found some heroin in their coleslaw.
-
They should make a reality TV series like Jersey Shore, or The Real World, staring only SR vendors.
"6 Strangers, all with their own drug market.... WILL THEY SURVIVE EACH OTHERS GAME?"

I knew the colonel was a dealer. Always gave me that vibe.
But srsly, why make it something that can ACTUALLY be ordered. Seems retarded, just make it something they don't have avail.
=/

I'll make sure to have all my orders in by the premier date.

By the way, Ozfreelancer. I've been reading your articles this afternoon and I have to say, I love your work. Keep it up!

The director of this show is Ben Wheatley, a wiki search of his name revealed the following.
[A sci-fi TV series written and directed by Wheatley has also been announced, entitled Silk Road. The series, said to be "in the vein of the Patrick McGoohan classic The Prisoner", will be screened on HBO.]
...uhhhh....sci-fi...???
...seems like it should be a drama styled as 'Weeds' or 'The Sopranos'

Sci-fi.... the fuck...?
Then again, it's not like Wiki is a reliable source of information.
-
Maybe they consider darknets to be sci fi? Yeah that's a stretch. This may not be about secret drug markets at all.

Hmmm, that changes things up a bit. But then, somebody could have mistaken 'cyber' for 'sci-fi'. If you go to the reference that footnotes that statement, it doesn't say anything other than all the other press releases about it. It just happens to be written up on a sci-fi news site.
So I hereby declare Wiki *wrong* :P
-
Lets be real about this. HBO(and other TV network) employees are probably some of the best SR customers.
That is one reason why you don't see much about it on the telly. I guarantee you this is just like the ING investment ad, which said "The NEW Silk Road" or the thrift shop with the same name, funny shit, I know, but it's a coincidence. I'm sure it'll prolly be some dune-ish/GOT-ish story about mining unobtainium through some wormhole, and various parties jockeying to take control of the 'spice trade' or what have you. The old SR was around for most of recorded history, so I think we need to stop seeing SR everywhere we read "silk road" the world doesn't revolve around us, we are a bunch of people who got sick of settling for poor-quality drugs, and did something about it. That, and a great community of people, most of whom I honestly believe want the best for each other in terms of harm reduction, safety, and have no ill will towards anyone(except scammers, fuck them.) Besides, Stargate Atlantis is already taken, and BMR is a large caliber rifle. =)
-
I can imagine some kind of 'Breaking Bad' story line.
-
if i could film the craziness and fun this site has brought to my life it would be pretty remarkable. maybe I should keep memoirs...
You should definitely keep memoirs!
In the future, being a part of this will be pretty important. This is part of history :)
-
Currently working on fiction that is similar to "Dabbling in Suicide" by ShamelessHarvey. You might even call it a sort of fan-fiction? I'm sure that as it develops it will become more my own, but for now it's strikingly similar. What can I say, I love the guy's writing. :P
All I know is that I love writing about drugs and sex, and I think they are great vehicles with which to look at society from an outside point of view.

Obviously DPR and his crazy strange ideals is from outerspace or was made in a lab/cloning facility, from another universe/from another timeline
etc etc..
hence..
sci-fi!

The fucking Singularity will come out of Bitcoin... human dependence on drugs and money! Fucking love that idea.... "Feed Me"... but don't use that line... kinda corny...
