Was tormail always like this? We seriously need to switch email hosts. Open to suggestions.

I will be happy to supply the dedicated .onion hosting, except i don't know how to provide the secure email front end portion.. is there any existing open source projects out there? or any information floating about creating a tormail like service..?

Maybe we should try and find out why Tormail is down before we jump and start putting plans on making a new service.

OR we could do both at the same time like walking and chewing gun. tormail had been around and has built trust, but it would be nice to have hidden service back ups when they are down and trust isn't to much an issue because we are all using pgp for all emails right?

Since it's decentralized, it doesn't rely on one central point of failure, like Tormail's server. The network stores (encrypted) messages for 2 days, so as long as you start your client once a day, you get messages and you don't need to have it running all the time.

We'll I'd hope we're all using PGP for emails. I guess I'm more for the "fix the main problem."
If we can fix what's causing Tormail to go down, we won't have to have a secondary email service.

I agree with your point, but you can never have too many back ups in this game because you never know when one is gonna go down for good!

I just happened to be in the final strokes of a deal with a lab and am trying to hammer out the last aspects of the deal before the weekend, but I guess plans change when they must. at least I take comfort that I'm only gonna have to deal with WD for a day or two.

Ah, well if you're emailing someone on clearnet, that's a different problem.
A clearnet email provider over Tor should work. Gmail is a pain in the ass, Yahoo Mail doesn't provide SSL support except during login, cyber-rights.net appears to have a self-signed certificate. I still recommend safe-mail.net.

I set up a safe-mail with the same nym so they should be able to figure it out but with the time differences, it will still be monday before they can do anything so I am stuck with 1 day supply to last at least 4 days :(

Tormail is a pain the bollox. Its down more than its up these days. I dont see why all of yall insist on it so much. If you are using TOR and PGP, whats the difference? (Yeah its an onion I know but seriously)

We really do need an alternative, but we gotta be careful of who we go to. Our friend in LE would jump at the chance to set up a honey pot just when people are pissed with tor mail.

Seems to be working again. I noticed a comment "has been hacked" under the tormail description on the hidden wiki. Can anyone confirm this or is it just someone upset posting this?

Hushmail and safemail are not safe.
securenym is one of the safer ones I know....for now.

It's been reported that they turn over 'suspicious' emails to the authorities. So, if you wish to use safe-mail, make sure that all your incoming and outgoing mail is encrypted, and that you do not use any Subject: lines that would attract attention.

They are all equally safe as long as you use Tor and PGP. There's no reason to trust Tormail more than the others, as Tormail could just as easily be an LE honeypot, and quite frankly your security should never depend on the good will of third party administrators. You should assume they are all malicious.

just make sure you are doing your own encryption and not using the email service with your private key integrated (I think that's a real thing that they offer, but I stay the fuck away from both of those services)
