Well...? I'm one of the sorry sons who've missed the boom :o
-
Of course it's not - Bitcoin is just getting lubed up :)
-
Do you think it's worth investing in the current rate (around €110) or wait for it to fall a bit first? I guess the question is will it fall first before it rises again
-
Bitcoins and Litecoins are going to be a very good investment over the next 6 months or so, get in.

I'm investing in Litecoins now for sure.
But I wonder if BTC will drop before it rises again. I'm going to bank transfer money to mtgox and wait to see when is the right time to invest...
Cheers for responses anyway

WHAT THE FUCK ARE U GUYS TALKING ABOUT???
"BEFORE IT RISES AGAIN?"
ARE U ALL RETARDED.. IT FUCKING HAS BEEN RISING FOR THE PAST 3.5 MONTHS.. ITS HAS NOT GONE DOWN..
JUST THIS WEEK ITS GONE UP 40 DOLLARS.. UR ALL FUCKING HIGH..
-
. IT FUCKING HAS BEEN RISING FOR THE PAST 3.5 MONTHS.. ITS HAS NOT GONE DOWN..
Exactly but everything that goes up must come down. If I buy at the high price and it falls I'll be at a loss. If it falls and I buy at a cheap price then I can look forward to another rise.
Cheers for the input though. You put forward a persuasive argument. I want more and more to put my life savings into BTC.

20 years from now, they'll consider us "early adopters" as everyone will be using BTC and LTC for 75% of transactions.
20 years from now they wont even believe you when you tell them you bought btc at 145 usd each.
Amazon, ebay, etc. will all have options to pay in BTC by 2014
It is here to stay and the sky is the limit.
IN SATOSHI WE TRUST

What will cause another boom in btc? More debt countries?
What will cause a crash? If people start spending their btc?
I'm trying to weigh up the odds for investing now so late in the game. The price has barely budged all day, I don't know what to make of this.

There's an eerie faith in Bitcoin at the moment. Reading the reddit board is starting to feel more like a cult than a currency system. Every time it looks like crashing a wave of faith saves it and gets it climbing again.
IMO there's two ways to look at Bitcoin. The short game, buy it to spend on SR.. Or the long game, buy it to hold and see where it's at in 5-10 years time, or even at the end of the year. Day trading is no good for your health, and if Bitcoin is going to take off nearly half as well as people think it is you'll get plenty back on even your $140 risk now. If you spend $140 and it crashes to $30 just keep hold of it. Like I say, if it's going to succeed they'll either be worth orders of magnitude more than $140 a pop, or nothing at all.
As always, only risk what you can afford to lose. Prices go both ways.

Good point, but with any high risk investment there's always a chance that it will go down
-
bitcoin isnt like fiat currentc as its designed to slowly limit the production of new btc over time
recently a few months ago the production of btc was halved....so in long term btc supply is limited
-
Look at a logarithmic graph of the past 3 months of BTC/USD....... it's a beautiful thing. :)
BUY BUY BUY
-
Up until now I have only bought enough bitcoin for the purchases I have made on SR
But the spare change has grown nicely

This is a pretty good take on it, and the camp I am in based on my risk profile

But these are the people who make bank
-
It could be a bubble or it could keep rising, the trick is not to risk more than you can afford to lose

bubbles gettin ready to burst.........in two months it will be down to 40...........how do I know? PM me and Ill tell ya

If you will tell anyone who PM's you, why not just post it?

He's counting on people to not actually PM him. Or else he's going to charge you for the info. There's no good reason not to post whatever it is if it's legitimate.
-
One would think it's too late but then people go on putting millions into bitcoin and the price shoots up. So just bank on people throwing millions into bitcoin. Until that stops the price will keep going up and if the price keeps going up people will throw million in to make money. It'll never end. I heard Mitt Romney is gonna unload his retirement fund into bitcoins thanks to Obama.
-
well ive made 900 dollars now.... ur all fools invest now.. quit being pussies..
-
It's up to 120 euro god damn...
Ok I'm going to invest now. What's the best way of doing it? Should I set a limit on my coins to automatically sell if they go down to a specific point?
-
Definatley still worth investing, just theres not as much possibility to gain as much as a profit as if you bought them a couple months back obviously.
I see them rising steadily with the occasional drops here and there, we will have to wait for when all the bitcoins have been mined to get a good idea of its final price

What I do is take all the money I put into bitcoins and divide it by the amount of bitcoins I have. In order for me to break even I need to sell at $85. If I buy more bitcoins that number will go up. Of course at first you will have to expect dips so I wouldn't sell right away. Over the last 30 days it went from $45 to $155. Look for more of the same this month.
-
It's $156 now, at this rate it will hit $1,500/BTC in less than 12 months.

shutdafuckup lol

It's not too late. Believe me. I've made thousands and thousands of dollars. In fact, I laughed this morning because I just placed an order yesterday, and the BTC was taken out of my account and put in escrow. I was out partying last night and didn't check the btc rate. I woke up this morning and checked my SR account and had MORE money then I had BEFORE I placed the order. Yes, you read that right. The BTC value is going up faster then you can spent it drugs as crazy as that sounds. I put in 5k or so when it was at like 32 USD.... it's 5 times that now. Even with the fact that I've been buying some of the most expensive drugs on the road I STILL have over $20k just sitting there smiling at me. The value has shot up 1400% in ONE YEAR. If it keeps going at this rate, we will hit $1,000/BTC by December and I will be a quarter millionaire! Christ. Ok.. time to be realistic. It will keep going up for sure, but not forever. Right now there is a frenzy. There's something like 60,000 people waiting to be verified on MTGOX. With all the shit in Cyrprus and EU, people are turning towards btc. Now, it cant KEEP going up forever and will eventually correct itself at some point, That point may be $250, $500, $1k or even $3k/btc. The trick is you have to go with your gut and when it starts falling dramatically either get out or wait it out. I'm gonna wait it out past the correction. When BIG money invests in BTC, it will sky rocket. The bad news is that BIG MONEY are very cautious and not into taking risk. The good news is, it will just take 1 of the BIG MONEY and the others will follow suit.
Long story short, its not too late, its never too late. Invest in BTC. The more people invest the better for everyone holding BTC in general including the investor, and including me :)
I'm feeling generous. If you're short a bit on your order pm me and I'll chuck some coin your way in the next 10 mins.

This thing is going to explode like nothing before in the next couple of weeks.
I invested my entire wages from February and March into bitcoins.
Realistically I won't have to flip drugs to make money for a very long time.
Buy your ticket and jump aboard, everyone is welcome!

No way could I afford to do this I had to make sacrifices during those past few months. I had to live off tinned food that had been sitting in my cupboard, protein shakes and my 10 gram bag of speed from Boymaster. I couldn't fill my car up with petrol so had to walk for 90 minutes to work everyday. In the evenings I would go to sleep in a jumped and jacket because I couldn't afford to put the heating on despite it being the coldest March for 50 years. Don't get me wrong, it was fucking difficult but sometimes the rewards more than justify the short term sacrifices.
Took some profit a few weeks back and the positions I am holding are near enough risk free..
Given current level I would say 155 is a good price to get in at. In the next 12 hours this thing is going explode like a cock filled with hot jizz

WHOOOOOSH
It's never too late if you have an entry and exit strategy
When you have bought your coins, try your best not to look at prices. Invest with fear and you will lose money, the moment you see the price fall other investors will be there waiting to take your cheap coins from you
-
I'm selling some coins on MTGOX at $165, please buy me!

Whats significant about the next 12 hours? I'm tuned in bigtime to everything btc related.. but don't think I saw anything about Monday being particularly important.. did I miss something? Do tell
-
Maybe I'm wrong
-
I'm surprised by the jump today. Usually there's less trading volume on the weekend and the price is relatively stable. We'll see what Monday brings.

Well that's what I thought today as well, weekends are usually pretty quiet trading wise with Sunday being the slowest. If the weekend is anything to go by then next week could potentially be phenomenal! :)

Thanks for all your useful comments so far. This is a community with an incredible bunch of individuals. I hope you all deservedly gain off this trend. I'll be investing some cash when the banks open tomorrow. I hope the next few days are profitable for all.

Good point. Sundays are usually dead.. and today has been far from it. Eyes glued to the ticker this week..

Look at the '08 housing crash. it was the biggest bubble that burst leaving behind many foreclosures. This was because of FAKE FIAT FEDERAL RESERVE NOTES BEING PRINTED LIKE THE DAILY NEWSPAPER AND AN OVER-INVESTMENT OF THEM.
Compare to the Bitcoin which is also Fiat but cannot be printed endlessly! The value of the Bitcoin will rise like Gold has throughout history, only today would be compared to somewhere around the start of the great gold rush in California! we're all heading west for the "BITCOIN RUSH OF THE EARLY 21st CENTURY"
ONLY 21 MILLION BITCOINS TO BE INVESTED IN, LIMITED SUPPLY, ALMOST LIKE A PRECIOUS METAL IN MY OPINION!
I amongst others here believe we're almost like revolutionaries and we're almost sure of it! '' GOOGLE/YOUTUBE PETER SCHIFF, JEFF BERWICK (BITCOIN), RON PAUL!! Folks the dollar is going to collapse and many of us and our families are going to go bankrupt overnight through hyperinflation of the dollar. And if we do, we were foolish because we weren't informed and aware. I think most have been and some now are Informed.
Could the Bitcoin save us from financial ruin? Save us from the FEDERAL RESERVE at least until they shut down the internet in America?
And no we're not "just too high" as i heard mentioned earlier, though sadly :o Without my medicine (Cannabis) I'm OK but go to other drugs not as "natural" to alter my consciousness :'( and end up ranting :o
And I'm a broke 19 yrs. old student who only has about a grand invested in due to studying over wage labour, who's not gonna ask for any tiny donations for his research and input from all you rich investors *wink* :D In all actuality in case one older gent is kind enough, personal message for address! Not begging though, am glad to be able to spread free information and feel blessed if I have helped anyone decide :)

Oh look I was right!
Very very fucked off though, set a sell order this morning for 195 and missed the fucker by 10 cents. Taking all my coins out MTGox, I advise everyone else to do the same and move them to bitstamp.
Looks like a good arb opportunity between the 2 exchanges as well but I'm not sure how quick the rate of transfer is between them so might ultimately be fruitless

begging for money and then promising to go the bank to pay in a dollar?
Ok this is really embarrasing. I'm 8 fucking CENTS short on my order. 8 cents. I don't know whether thats funny or thats sad.
Can someone send me 8-10 cents? I'll pay back a dollar in the morning when I can get to the bank.
My SR username is "colorblack"
Will appreciate it. Please PM once you have done it with ur SR name so I know who to pay back.
Ah but perhaps you have a paper wallet locked away in a safe somewhere?
So, what would be the safest place to keep coins? Obviously I know SR is rock solid and safe. I trust it more then Bitfloor for sure. But we've read of breaches from time to time on some of these online wallets.. so I was thinking of an absolute fool proof place to keep my small amount of Bitcoins. Bitcoin-QT, is the wallet that resides on my own machine right? That's essentially completely safe from outside attacks? Or just keep them on SR with a reliable Bitfloor backup address in my settings and call it day?
Perhaps not
Bought some weed using bitcoin, now a hot shot trader
lol

and ftr I don't hold any bitcoins but I do enjoy watching the pleasure it brings to you plebs as you watch the value rise.
-
Great comments here guys. Lots of laughs to be had. ;D Personally, I'm thinking the price is only going to keep rising as a lot of older members than me have stated. I recently emailed with MtGox support and they told me they were trying to at least double in staff in the next 3 weeks for what they expect with be an exponential growth in the market. As some of you have already stated, they certainly feel this rise in price is just the tip of a profitable, virtual iceberg.
Not sure if this has been posted yet but for those of you who read, an interesting article done by the New York Times. Clearnet: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/08/business/media/bubble-or-no-virtual-bitcoins-show-real-worth.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
I'm excited to see what comes of the 2013 Bitcoin conference. The idea of a virtual, nontaxed currency is "too good to be true" in a lot of aspects, I think it baffles both investors and us on the Road alike. Whether or not we are talking about a bubble here, I don't see the price of Bitcoin falling any time soon. And I'm hanging on to mine, spending the profits here on the Road, and enjoying riding the wave that is BTC. 8)
-
Right on dude. We HAVE to spend it at least somewhat to keep it healthy. If its just being hoarded eventually people will lose confidence and bail the fuck out of dodge. If you spend, not only do you get your awesome drugs from this awesome site, but you keep the flow of BTC moving instead of standstill. Also, at the rate this badboy is rising, even if you bought the more expensive items on SR, you would STILL gain every day. It's gaining faster then we can get high with it. :o

do you think bitcoins will reach over 200$USD? also will it crash after 4/20?
-
Bitcoin cant support an actual economy. Its supply is severly limited and while always be deflating. Nobody is ever going to want to spend their coins. Theres been alot of hype in the past couple weeks, but what is going to keep it going??
-
do you think bitcoins will reach over 200$USD? also will it crash after 4/20?
why would it crash after 4/20???? You think all the pot-heads are ramping up the price of BTC? I wish, lol. I think SR is a huge part of BTC, but I don't think we're the ones making the market skyrocket :p. Wouldn't that kick ass tho?

do you think bitcoins will reach over 200$USD? also will it crash after 4/20?
Yup, tomorrow without a doubt. Nope, much later (if you will call the inevitable "correction" a "crash"). I don't think it will crash, it will just naturally drift and hover around a sustained number. What will it be? Not sure. But not yet. Not until the big money get to play too.
-
So far I've only dumped a couple hundred in my wallet, and watched it grow a week or two so I could get a bigger bag of MDMA for free. But the entire time I was coming home from work and anxiously checking the rate to make sure the bubble hasn't popped.
Personally, I won't invest in BTC because when that bubble pops, its going to suck for whoever isn't able to clean out their wallets in time. But if it's low again, say around the $10 to $15 per BTC mark then I'll probably get quite a few coin and let them sit in the wallet for a while in case this happens again. The only shitty part is converting BTC back into real money. At least as far as I can see. I haven't looked too far into it yet.

BUBBLE TIME? The question to
be answered is whether or not btc is taking the shape of a bubble. The answer is YES! There is presently a reflexive pattern of folks buying because prices are rising, and prices rising because folks are buying. The myopic are extrapolating the price trend of the last four months, which they deem as normal, and in so doing, they exacerbate it to the upside, thus attracting even greater fools. The inflection point will come when the continuity of bullish thought is broken. One thing is for sure....the amount of suckers left who are willing to jump on the moving and ever accelerating TRAIN is drawing thin....and so are their pockets.
-
This conversation is being mentioned on several different forums (eg BitCoinTalk.org and /r/BitCoin) and based on what I've read I'm not too worried about a bubble. Even if there were a market correction I doubt it'd go back under 120 at this point. Supply has limited growth but undoubtedly the demand for BTC is increasing rapidly (some would say exponentially). I think these are the biggest factors affecting the price right now. What people forget is that demand is still relatively low (although growing) compared to the overall size of the world economy, and as people learn about BTC they become more and more interested.
I'd be more worried of a crash from a cracked alogirthm or something in the vain, personally. Don't invest your retirement fund or your child's education savings, only spend what you're willing to lose and enjoy the ride. Some people will wait for a large crash before buying up and they may be waiting for quite a while....
-
Since you're particularly talking about timing, I'll repeat what I just said in another btc thread: the risk/reward profile keeps changing (specifically, more risk for less reward as btc climb). When btc were $5, if you put in $1000 and sold when it got to $10/coin, you'd have just made $1000. btc are now... $218 and change. If you put in $1000 and sold when btc rise to $223 (that same $5 hike) you'd have... Just under $1005. Less transaction fees. To get that same $1000 profit, you'd have to sell at $446. Or a tenth that rise but 10x the investment/risk.
So yeah. An interested person is in one of three boats: 1) you invested early and are just waiting to see when to jump off this train (and then retire comfortably or at least enjoy a significant expansion of life options), 2) you're already filthy fucking rich and you can throw $10k in to make $1000 profit (like in the last scenario subsequent paragraph), or any multiple thereof, or 3) you missed the boat, either by a little or a lot and you're wondering if it's too late to get any kind of reasonable reward for risk buying in now. In which case, no, you're waiting for a significant crash so that you can buy in for a reasonable risk/reward ratio.
-
Exactly right. There is diminishing returns as well. If you had put in 10k when it was at even at $118 last week, you'd have doubled your money and have $20k. BUT, if you put in $10k today @ 233...you'll have to wait till it's at 466 (if/when/ever) to have doubled your money. And the values go higher, the exponential rise will obviously slow down, as will the speed of gain.
-
Late? A little. Too late? Definitely not.
Nobody can predict how high BTC will go to, but at the current rate, you can double your money in less than a month.
-

OldToby and Colorblack, you are definitely looking at it differently than I am. How long did it take to go from $10 to $20 this time around? How long did it take for it to go $100 to $200? Yes there will *eventually* be a slowdown in the exponential growth but the fact remains that right now it is exponentially growing.
In my opinion if you wait for an actual *crash* (ie drops back down to less than $50 / BTC) then at that point my best guess would be that the currency is actually compromised. If you are waiting for a *correction* (in my opinion if the price drops perhaps 50% in value) then a.) you don't know when that correction is going to come and may be waiting a long time during which the price keeps going up (and you keep losing money). If someone buys a bunch of coins at $250 then watches it go up to $1000 and that it corrects back to $500 then that person has still doubled their money. And unless that correction exposes a major flaw in the currency (ie something other than "it was a bubble" or "people overestimated the value") then after the correction the currency will still increase in value afterward.
It's fine to be cautious but if some of you are waiting for the value to go back down under $50 you may have already lost your chance and may have to accept the possibility that it will never go back down to that value until it actually becomes obsolete.
I know it's hard for anyone to predict a bubble and a lot of us are nervous about such a possibility, but if you are mostly investing for the adventure of it (ie not your retirement or your kid's education fun) then you might be willing to accept the fact that you missed the early opportunities but can still make some handsome returns during the next few months.
Just my .02. There'd be nothing worse, for me personally, than missing out on the $10 / BTC times and wanting those prices back so badly that I miss out on the opportunities that are still there. I can certainly see a correction (we've seen them before) but post-correction BTC has consistently increased in value. Those willing to hold their BTC or buy more during the corrections make out the best.
-
Looks like it's time for our weekly panic / sell off. The price just dropped $50, although that's 20% of the peak value, so by relative magnitude it's not the biggest drop we've experienced. Then again, it may not be over yet. Is this an excellent time to buy? So hard to tell.
-
I'm waiting for it to go below 200 to buy, which it looks like it might
-
How long does it take for SR to update this fall? Cause I'm ready to cash in what I have
-
There's a huge buy wall at $200. 3000 BTC worth of buy orders, so if you want coins, you should put in an order at $201. :)
-
I see that it's just sitting att that 200.50 mark. It doesn't make a difference to me anyway I can't top up any more on virwox for couple of more hours :/
-
Bitcoins currently dropped to $200, who's pulling out? I'm anticipating....
-
Bitfloor is down too, probably has an impact on amt of buyers right now too.

Clearnet Warning:
Look at the lag: http://www.mtgoxlag.com/
Calm down.

I think it has become clear that perhaps the weakest link in the currency at this point is the inability for the exchanges to keep up with order demand during these panics (for lack of a better term). What are the other exchanges other than MtGox?
We need to have a serious conversation on here, or /r/bitcoin, or bitcointalk.org (they've probably already had this convo somewhere but I hate the design of that site) about what needs to be done to make sure these lags don't occur and what opportunities this may present to experienced web developers.
-
what does the lag mean?

all you idiots got caught on the bandwagon, got taken in by the professional traders who inflated the price and then crashed it at will
haha

Do you ever reply to anyone with something remotely sensible? You just seem to try and bad-mouth everyone. Every post I see from you is having a stab at someone else.
With that said.....
(1) Not scamming anyone, plenty of happy customers.
(2) how is it ruined? I sell at a set price below MtGox's prices it doesn't matter if they are worth £1 or £1000 to me I will still sell them. I may have to adjust the discount per coin if it continue's to drop steadily but apart from that business as usual.
(3)Prick.
-
It went from $266 to $156. Hell of a sell off, even in relative terms.
The market is fucking whacked right now. $36 bid-ask spread, usually it's less than a dollar. Price is jumping all around. This will take a while to get settled.
-
any insight from someone who knows why, not just guessing as to why we would have a 100 dollar drop in the matter of an hour?
-
Yes it is but it looks worse than it is because of the engine lag. People are panicking and selling. This is the time to buy I think.
-
Hopefully it smooths out and skyrockets back to $250 tomorrow. Atleast thats what im counting on.
-
I put in an order here an hour ago but now the FE and cancel options have been shaded and I can't do anything with it. I don't know why this is. Any ideas, has anyone placed an order recently?
-

I think it will be a bit later on than tomorrow, takes a while before the panic subsides and people start buying up a few cheap(er) coins. Maybe towards the end of the week- next week it will begin to climb. That's my prediction anyway
-
any insight from someone who knows why, not just guessing as to why we would have a 100 dollar drop in the matter of an hour?
One explanation that I've heard is that people run bots which query the MtGox API. The bots are programmed to sell if the lag gets too long, because without information on the current price, that's considered the safe thing to do. So when MtGox gets a huge lag because of high trade volume, or in this case because of a DDOS attack, that triggers the bots to sell. Of course, that doesn't explain all of it, but when people see the price dropping, then they panic and sell too.
Supposedly that's what happened during one of the other sell offs back in March. Not the one that went from $48 to $33, that was caused by the block chain hard fork. There was one before that which was also triggered by MtGox lag.
-

OK maybe I FE's and I wasn't paying attention. It says N/A is this what appears after one finalises?

Not the web site. The actual block chain, after which blockchain.info is named.

its been said elsewhere that a ddos is in progress (this would stand to reason as if you look at the engine lag it would make sense) people are panicking and selling off. Now is the time to buy!!
Mtgox trading engine lag: 3839.89s

ok, when do you think we should start buying?? what value should coins hit... also what are your predictions for when coins will go back up in value?
-
buy as soon as you can at the lower prices, this will be over in a matter of hours and slowly begin to creep back up, next week this dip will be as if it never happened and it will still be creeping up.
This is coming from the various sources I trust. Its only small money panicking at the moment cashing out as they see it fall, the big money is waiting it out and will start (by at least tomorrow morning) buying up all the cheap coins slowly at first. Now is the time

I have done before, I am investing a large sums (10,000+ over several transactions) on it at the moment while the price is nice & low. So take that for what it is worth :)

I know of the bubble, most all currency and economies for that matter, are on a bubble. It's the boom/bust cycle. This is not the bubble bursting, thats why i asked that question the way I did. Thanks for your feedback though.

Sometimes we have to take a step back and consider how far we've come. It's amazing that $120 coins are considered cheap. :)

it's called a bubble, this is what happens when they burst
in simple terms the market was manipulated by investors more intelligent that the standard SR user who thinks investing in bitcoins might be a good idea

The bitcoin price is currently in a state of quantum decoherence, because the bid-ask spread is $50. It's either $120 or $170 and keeps jumping back and forth.

the sound of someone who got in too deep lol
yes we all know price is going to rebound this is how markets work but the bubble has burst and mid to long term this is crashing and you have lost all you fucking money
the last 5 Thursdays have been crash days + usual weekend dip = $50 on monday

based on what exactly?
by all means go and spend your money if you think thats a good deal

Here's another theory about this sell off that I came across:
An insider email was leaked onto r/bitcoin a couple weeks ago. Basically a group of rogue traders on Tor organizes a planned DDOS of MtGox at a specific date and time - thus locking out everyone from creating new trades - while simultaneously creating a sell off over 4 hours. The fact that no new trades can be created combined with the price dropping precipitously causes a panic, which grows. At the height of the panic, they buy back in (because they are the ones controlling the DDOS, so they get to make the profitable trades). Everyone else loses their ass who reads the price manipulation as true market price and panics. More people need to understand this because no one is actually panicking at first; it's price manipulation through the DDOS dropping the price, not actual mass sell off. Still people just blindly look at the price of MtGox and don't consider this as a possibility even though it's happened frequently over the last few months. Information is power.
-
am i seeing things or did a coins just sell for 100 dollars? wtf ITS GOIND DOWN NOWWWW
THE LOW IS 105 DOLLARS AND THE HIGH IS 266? WTF
-
ok, when do you think we should start buying?? what value should coins hit... also what are your predictions for when coins will go back up in value?
I believe $40 is a good entry point, but you may have to wait till next week or possibly next month. BTC's recent vertical ramp was impressive, however it was not sustainable.
Best of luck :)
-
people are buying like crazy right now. this is an attack. if it were market, no one would be buying. hang in there folks
-
just lost 700 dollars right when sr updated the btc price.. its at 199 i think..
good thing i put in a order for a brick and its on its way.. everything i have in coins is just the profit i made from the rise.. fuck it..
hopefully everyones right and it will jump back up.. either way i loose nothing really..

you got fucked brah, bet you thought you were the don when prices were rising, bet you rolled around town with you cap pointing in an unorthodox, obnoxious angle to emphasise what a badass you were.
not anymore brah. stoners like you are supposed to make money, that's how the world works, you bought your coin inflated, your coin has now crashed, you are broke no doubt owing people money
time to fill out that macdonalds application form and work that shit off
-
lol ... me .. broke.. lol over 2500 dollars in bitcoins i got for free?
umm re read buddie.. i put in coins to buy a pound... i let it sit for a week made 2500 dollars.. and bought my pound.. i still have 2500 that i made in the rise in SR.. OF THAT MONEY i lost 700 dollars.. its free money.. i loose nothing really.. u sir are a jackass lol nice try to bruh..
i know u mad tho.. HAAAAYYYTERRRR
I BOUGHT AT 120 - 110 i think.. so yeah ur a fool .. fuck off cunt face retard

Already bounced back up to near 200
For how volatile the market has been, I'm impressed on its overall resilience.

price going down after it capped out at 200$USD?
-
Btc's went to around $250 last night and crashed around $120.
I'd look into also buying some LTC's..they will rise in value soon i'm sure once their listed on Mt.Gox, etc.

:'( £100 swing range

One explanation that I've heard is that people run bots which query the MtGox API. The bots are programmed to sell if the lag gets too long, because without information on the current price, that's considered the safe thing to do. Of course, that doesn't explain all of it, but when people see the price dropping, then they panic and sell too.
The irony, of course, is that with the lag those bots will be selling for much lower than the price when they were triggered and those sell-offs will also continue to push the price down.
They don't say "patience is a virtue" for no reason, and I'm actually hoping that this crash, bubble-pop, correction, or whatever you want to call it, purges the community of some of the emotional panickers.

I hope for this as well, ultimately the weakest players sold out and are probably to fought with confusion as to buy back in or not...which means some wont.
No concern for me though because patience is a virtue :)
-
Litecoins are definitely a good investment IMO, I also think they had a lot to to with how quickly the cryptocoin market stabilized after the crash yesterday. More coins make the entire cryptomarket stable and fluid if you ask me.
-
I sold half my coins for 250 yesterday and had a buy order that got executed at 110 today.
I made out like a bandit thanks to MTGox's lag

Smart thinking.... Good Job.
I got my money tied in Bitfloor....
Would have bought them too on Mtgox for $135, if I had the cash in hand...

Me personally, I use CampBX.

What will cause another boom in btc? More debt countries?
What will cause a crash? If people start spending their btc?
I'm trying to weigh up the odds for investing now so late in the game. The price has barely budged all day, I don't know what to make of this.
This currency is not even two years old.
It just doesn't get much earlier than now.
I suggest to you, and the rest of the people in this thread, simply go to websites about markets and currencies and LEARN YOUR FINANCIAL HISTORY.
Just because we see new words like bitcoin, litecoin, and cryptocurrency doesn't mean it is something new under the sun. When every country set up it's own exchange or currency, they went through this. Those that got in early made out like bandits, those that didn't...well get to reading. You'll find out!
-
Well...? I'm one of the sorry sons who've missed the boom :o
Not half as sorry as I am. Still, I predict btc will continue to rise for some time so it is not too late. It has recently taken a tumble in the last 24 hours and 6 hours but it won't stay like that forever.
-
If you were looking to invest in bitcoins now is time, buy low sell high is how the market works. Bitcoins will go up from here on out so buy now.
-
it was starting to go up but now it seems the MtGox is down again... can anyone else confirm this?
frozen at $102.123 i believe
-
Btc's were at around $80 when i checked 10mins ago.
-
Gox is hovering around $102. Coins are just not going to crash like some people hope. They will normalize in the 100s and then once the world sees they aren't a fad, and that they survived whatever the fuck happened yesterday.. they will climb again (albeit slower then last time).
-
$56 on gox as i type this.... fuck me.

Well, currently the weighted is $86.77AUD, $87.95USD and £56.08GBP. Um. The GPD was dropping around £1 per 10 minutes, even faster, several hours ago. I never expected it to drop like this.
As to the OP q. ...... Um. I think the answer is pretty clear.....
No it is not too late going off this data. Buy now. Buy Now. Buy NOW.
Piece, Love, and Fuck Haters.

Didn't BTC go through a similar "crash" around 2 years ago?
I remember reading that at one point BTC were going for about $35, when I joined SR 17 months ago, I was paying a around $1.75 a BTC, so it has lost a considerable amount of value before.
-
predicted to recede to pre-mania levels of under $15 USD My guess would be in about 3 months
Can you say IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE? :'(

I'd be willing to put $50 down that BTC will be over $200 / BTC by Math 10th. Are you willing to put money down?

I will throw down $50 with you and make it a $100 that BTC will be over $200 by May 10th. Any takers?
-
Math 10? Did you mean May 10? Thats one hell of a slip on the keyboard! :P ;)
I think BTC will fall in price over the weekend.
Then next week they will shoot right up....just speculating.. :)

Market stabilized last night (I watched it), and currently returning to normal. It won't take too long I expect.

$56 on gox as i type this.... fuck me.
And 12 hours later it's trading at $120. You all need to chill.
I'd also put money down that it will be over $200, and much sooner than May 10. Like probably within a week.
-
$129.50 now.....rising fast again. If it hits $180 within the next couple of days, I'll be very happy. I'm one of the unlucky ones who bought $3500 over two days time (just days before the crash) for a large order (to be purchased before now) and then it crashed before I had a chance. I'm not a fan of investing in this manner, I just want BTC to stay stable (very little ups/downs).
-
YEAH.. maybe.. maybe not.. im done betting and talking about it NO ONE can predict this crazy shit market..
all we know is that its clearly not safe..
i still have extra in SR and as soon as i reach my buy price im out.. this is not for me.. not a good idea for ANYONE to bet on this shit..
i think anyone with some actright should just cash out when they get there money back or at least get close..
BE SMART DONT BET ON THIS BULLSHIT.. NONE OF US CAN KNOW .. NO ONE ON EARTH CAN.. ITS LIKE JESUS

Personally, I am just content that I can deposit a certain amount of local currency and receive a certain amount of illegal drugs to my home address. Is it too much to ask that we all just calm down about the BTC market? As long as the Silk Road exists, the BTC will never lose its practical value.
Stop acting like weather forecasters or fortune tellers and trying to predict the future of BTC. Be content with the good that was, the good that is, and the good to come.
I purchased Bitcoins to buy illegals. I've gained a lot of money with the rise in BTC market value. I've lost a lot of money with the fall in BTC market value. Again I say, I purchased Bitcoins to buy illegals. Let's not forget DPR and staffs' vision for this beautiful creature we are a part of.

Let's not forget DPR and staffs' vision for this beautiful creature we are a part of.

bitcoins went from 80$USD to 100$USD they going back up?
-
Gox is hovering around $102. Coins are just not going to crash like some people hope. They will normalize in the 100s and then once the world sees they aren't a fad, and that they survived whatever the fuck happened yesterday.. they will climb again (albeit slower then last time).
wish i had the drugs yer doin...........normalize in the 100s? Please, let me know what drugs yer on...........I will pay you a bitcoin, once bit goes to $35 next week
thanks

It sounds like half the people here know what direction the BtC will take. My question is 'What are you doing here? You should be at the stock exchange.
The fact is no one knows where it will be tomorrow or next week. So the only real answer to this entire thread is - No it's not to late to invest but just be damned sure you don't invest anything you can't afford to lose
-
Well, it's been fascinating.
I have what I consider a small stash of BTC. Went to bed and it was 230. Next I set eyes on it it's in free fall in the 150's. Well, I'll be damned if I'm gonna sell at the bottom of a spike, but how low can it go? Pretty low as it turns out. Gox freezes at 120 and announces when they'll be back up, and I had to wonder what was gonna happen when that market re-opened. My own bet (with no $ behind it - I have nothing but BTC in my account and so wasn't in a position to buy) was that it would be a case of instant rebound as people rush in to capitalize on the 120. And... nope.
Last I checked coins were selling for 102 and standing orders for purchase were about 98, so at least it's a sane spread at this point.
Course, I couldn't have sold during the fall if I tried, given the lag, but I knew nothing of this. I do remember some *4 thousand people* on standby for purchase orders at 200 the day before. I wonder how many of those people woke up to find out they had at that price purchased BTC in free fall. Maybe the lag saved some of them, long enough to cancel those purchase orders.

There was a 47 minute lag *today*. They still haven't fixed their shit.

XXXotica, I really appreciate your opinion. Especially from a senior vendor. Thx mate.

There is no way to tell what direction BTC would be heading next week or even tomorrow. I do know that there is a way to manipulate the market though!
I do believe as fucked up as banks are they are the cause of the spike and crash. There was an article about how the banks in Cyprus charged everyone 5-10% of whatever their account balance was causing everyone to withdraw all their money out and buying bitcoin.
So what the banks probably did was invest millions and millions into btc causing the price to go up...causing everyone to invest.. and then the banks just dumped all of their coin at once causing price to go down and so then nobody would have any trust in bitcoin. Then people started "panic selling" making the situation even worse.
There was over 1 billion dollars lost in the crash. I was watching the market at least 15x an hour. I remember right before the crash the weighted avg was $238 and the last price was then $105. Why on earth would anybody sell coin for half it's value? It had to be someone deliberately wanting to fuck up the market!
I know I'm not no do damn stock brocker but I do love to gamble!! ;) I kinda had fun during its rise. At one point I had made over $6k in profit. I was pissed off cuz I made an order worth $8k while it was at $40 and it took the vendor over 14 days to "prepare" my package and at that time it had already climbed to about $80 or so. If I woulda held on to the coin and never made that purchase, sold at $220 I would've made over $40k!! That's a lot of loot in a short period of time!!!
I don't care what anybody says, as soon as I get more money I'm going to invest more. This has been an experience for me and now I know what to expect during a major crash. It's not like it crashed in two minutes. If you were watching it, you had a few hours to be able to tell that it was indeed crashing.

It was definitely a coordinated attack to crash bitcoin: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1c3uqd/this_is_a_fucking_disgrace/
I can't find it now, but there was a blog post that talked about a whole bunch of $106 sell orders that were coming in when BTC was at $170 or something like that. So it was a combination of lag (which my or may not have involved a DDOS attack) and coordinated buy/sell orders to influence the price.
It was certainly not the bitcoin community suddenly losing confidence in bitcoin en masse -- well, they did, because of the shenanigans, but not spontaneously.
However, I've seen no evidence that central banks were involved. I think people are having a hard time accepting that random market manipulators could have done this. There's certainly financial incentive for virtually anyone to do this, not just banks.
-
Who knows what was that main cause of the drop. I just know that with more demand, trading, and purchases made with bitcoin (not just SR related) the price will one day MIGHT be worth $500, $1000, or even $10,000 a coin. More and more merchants are accepting BTC as payments. Hopefully more people start actually using them.
And just like what has happened in the past, there will be another inflation in the future. It just won't take as long as it did last time now that more people know about it.
I think what I might end up doing is buying a vendors account once I have a bunch of coin I've invested. So right when the market is crashing I will create a custom listing for myself and keep my funds in escrow (USD) until the market cools down and prices are stable then cancel the order, giving me more BTC ;) ;);) ;);) ;);) ;);) ;);) ;)
Ya some people might call me greedy, I call myself money hungry. ;D I see it as if it makes money it makes sense. And I love making money. I'm damn good at it too!! ;)

BTC isn't mean to for investing, it's meant for trading.

Care to make a wager on that Pollyanish prediction?
I'd be willing to put $50 down that BTC will be over $200 / BTC by Math 10th. Are you willing to put money down?
BET!!! If BTC is not trading above $200 USD by May? 10th I will relieve you of your $50 ;D
if it is trading exactly $200, we'll call it a push

If at 12 midnight May 10th it is trading exactly at $200 I'll call it a push---<no action>

No, it is custom built for investing as well as trading. In fact, it's one of the best things you can invest in at atm. You're going to miss out on a unique opportunity if you don't realise this.
Banks are not meant for investing. They are meant for losing money. Bitcoin you definitely can invest in, if you plan it right.

what will bitcoin price be on 4/20?
-
Not sure, but... higher? ::) GBP slowly coming back again, looking at it now. May get as high as £70 by next SAT, 20th Apr, not sure. As for USD, anyone taking predictions?

My guess is that it will stay around $100 for the next week. Who knows though
Anybody else notice that your USD in your SR account is significantly higher than it was? According to SR, the price of 1 BTC is $197.50
-
Yeah, probably go up just a fraction I think. Won't sit at same rate for long.

I believe I read earlier that it was a glitch with Mt.Gox and since SR goes off of Gox prices it reflected. It's fixed of course now

Funny how even when the bubble popped there were some in this thread that insisted it wasn't a bubble but a correction
-
Blegh. I'm riding the wave now, guys.
After the crash, I was trying to buy coins at $60-80, but couldn't get on the network. I finally got a purchase in at $100, but it didn't go through until they were $107. They hung there for a few days but now seem to be plummeting again.
Giving up and cashing out would cost me a pretty penny, so I'm gonna have to wait it out.
Wish me luck!

Not really tempting to just buy when I lost 50% of the BTC I paid for, so I am letting them sit until they rise again, so I can get the amount of BTC I paid for, I really messed up last time I bought BTC into SR.

where you at colorblack? Is the bet on?

Only if you have extreme balls would you invest in BTC now after recent developments. My personal opinion is Litecoin's are a much better product and may end up being to Bitcoin what Facebook was to MySpace, faster, more popular and better tech also many Bitcoin miners are going over to it and it's much harder to mine also. Litecoin for the WIN!

coins are pretty low at the moment >.>
-
hopefully they keep getting lower until i get paid. then they boom :)
-
It's pretty difficult to say what the future for Bitcoin will be. I thought that forsure by now we would be at ~$150 and growing, but instead were down to ~$70 and still going down. Maybe all the people saying it'll stabilize at $40-50 were right after all
Got my current coins at $64.28 so I think it's time to spend them before I start losing money
-
i really thought the bit would be back at $150 by tomorrow also. it seems like a good amount of investors are getting out... im only going to buy coins as needed until they drop to single digit USD per coin. i would love to have the chance to load up for $7 a coin and forget about it for a year or so... maybe catch the market when it gets high again, just think buying for $7 a coin...... when it gets to $14 you double whatever you put in, $21 is triple, and so on! If that day ever gets here again you can bet Rent0n will have some coin!
