Title: Wallet options!
Post by: smokecrack on April 03, 2013, 02:11 pm
what do you use for your wallet?  bitcoin-qt?  electrum?  an online wallet service?  which one?

i have trouble putting my faith into online wallets but i hate bitcoin-qt because its sooooo slow.  i dont like how bitcoin-qt and electrums wallet files are different formats.  what if electrum just shuts down and quit building software and my client no longer works?

please steer me in the right direction

Go to brainwallet.org
Download the actual site (save page as), it is in javascript so you can run it offline on a web-browser.
Make a paper wallet. Copy the private key and public key. Save those.
Send the money to the public key (wallet). You now have complete control of the money.

When you want to send money out, click on the transaction tab. Type in the private key, the amount, mining fee,
and the destination wallet address. It will then give you the raw output text. You can save that onto a CD or USB and move it to an online computer.

Then using bitcoin-QT you can go to manual transaction and type sendrawtransaction "rawdata" without the "" marks,.
You can also go to blockexplorer or blockchain.info to push the transaction out into the network.

Yes my method is safer than any wallet software, including electrum wallet or even bitcoin-qt for that matter. Bitaddress.org has similar functionality and safety as brainwallet.org, you can also download the bitaddress.org website (save page as) and run it on an offline computer that never connects to the internet.

It's when you print your private keys, or a QR code representing them, out on paper.
