And yes, this is a scam -- so please, no one purchase anything from that individual.

Mine was from Larry% too. I was so excited that I got a message but then it was just some shady business which is most likely a scam  :(

Glad there's already a thread on this though. Gotta love this community.

It's difficult because since they don't have any forum posts, they're harder to find.  If you post their usernames here, I will look into it.  I deleted a few of those accounts last night, but unfortunately even after deletion, they can simply re-register the same username again (or a different one) and continue forth with their scam.

One way to prevent these messages is to change your forum preferences so that they are set NOT to show when you are online.

Is there a way to block certain IPs? I mean I know you can do that with other browsers but I wasn't sure if Tor had a way to do that. Blocking those bitcoin spammers would be ideal.

These messages weren't from the bitcoin spammers.  But, no, there's no way to block certain IPs due to the nature of Tor, as far as I understand it.

Got the same message too from two different accounts.
I replied to try and string them along saying I am very interested.. I might make up a fake escrow service and say to them they must front a small amount of coin before I pay for the goods just to prove the deal is legit or something. I fucking hate scammers so if I could possibly screw them then I will.
Keep you all posted  ;)

Ugh. You too? Everyone's got them. I just got the same PM from awldo. Originally I thought it was a sexy PM, but it wasn't, it was this:

I got this message too, fking scammers.

Also whats up with everyone's avatars surrounded by the anonymous mask image?

Obviouly we understand everything cant ever be perfect but a few Bitcoin invested by the owners of SR to control the spam here, create a proper search engine, introduce other currency conversions and stuff like this wouldnt do any harm me thinks..

Oh I'm aware of that. But those bitcoins scammers are about 10xs as annoying as the PM senders. So I was just trying to kill 2 scammers with one stone.

I keep deleting these dickbags' accounts but as soon as I do that, they are able to re-register new ones -- or even the exact same ones!  So, it's difficult to prevent this stuff unless you change your settings not to show when you are online.
Title: Re: PM "business"... scam?

They seem to send it in bulk. I'm assuming to the people who are online at the time? anaky sent me the most recent one.

It's a glitch within the SMF software, it's been causing all kinds of anomalies, it's much better than what it was, don't worry you're not alone.
Latest message sent to me and four others from pixi today at 10:44pm has added a 'deal breaker' at the end.

You could register pixi so the scammer can't use pixi again, still doesn't stop the scammer from using another username. You're trying your best scout, it's impossible to ban this scammer due to the nature of Tor, all we can do as a community is keep awareness up on this scam.

Yes, but that means every time I delete one of their usernames I have to then register it myself, and they will just continue to start new ones.  I'm doing the best I can, but deleting their accounts and then re-registering them myself is not really a viable option.

Truesay scout, seems the scam is spread further afield (clearwebalert) www.buscarportal.com/anuncios_clasificados/detail-m-1641.html  there is an ip and a phone number on the ad, I think the scam is traced back to romania (clearwebalert) whois.domaintools.com/93.114.43.156 I might be wrong I'm no expert at this but at least I tried :)

Yep, Romania. It's down at the moment btw. "Connection to 93.114.43.156 failed. The system returned: (111) Connection refused The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again." Lol, they call themselves "Voxility SRL".....? That what they're calling themselves? Why do they have 97 IPs for the one company? Go figure..... yeah, full-time scammers with a base in the middle of nowhere (nice paddock you have there ;) ), 97 IPs from a single site, not really hard to find this shit is it...... ::) They're nestled between Targu Mures, Sibiu and Brasov north of Bucharest, I had to check as at first, I thought their offices may have been located on Mars. ::)

So....... they're on Tor and well as clearnet eh? ::)

The utter morons pm'd me too, forum name pixi and this was after I sent them a message a few days telling them we were onto them.

It really is about as piss poor attempt at a scam that I've seen yet. Deleting their accounts is pointless as scout pointed out they just re register the name or get a new one.  Just ignore these jokers and they will go away soon enough.

The user 'grenth' is another one. I'm pretty sure no one mentioned his name yet. It was one of 3 identical messages I got from 3 different users. I don't know who would be dumb enough to either fall for, or attempt to carry out this scam.

I think that we should rig the forums so that everyone gets the cocaine email 24 hours after signing up.

On the basis that anyone who contacts that person is so laughably naive that they're a risk to the security of the entire SR operation and they can be weeded out on that basis.

I just got one! I get about one of these a week. www.bitswing.com is a total ripoff site. I lost $190 dollars there, using PAYPAL!! - I've been with PayPal; for 13 years!!!- They used to be reputable and strict at who the lend their name to. - I guess good old corporate greed set in.

One way to avoid getting those PM's is to go into your forum settings and change it so that it does NOT show when you're online.
