Title: Article: TOR Exit Nodes Mapped with Google Maps
Post by: meatwad on February 28, 2013, 08:43 pm
CLEARNET - http://hackertarget.com/tor-exit-node-visualization/ - CLEARNET

It looks as if Europe is leading the charge with by far the most exit nodes.

"At the most basic level unless you are using encrypted protocols (HTTPS / SSH / TLS), the Tor traffic could be monitored. Here are two simple examples:

Using a forum that does not use HTTPS your login, password, session cookie and posts could all be captured.
If you send an email using SMTP (no TLS) then the email could be intercepted."

Does this forum use HTTPS for our login, password, etc?
Does Tormail use SMTP if you are sending the email to gmail or yahoo?

That's only when you use Tor to access clearnet addresses. Gmail.com, yahoo.com, mail.com, etc.

This forum is a hidden service (address is .onion) - so no exit nodes are involved and it's end-to-end encrypted with TLS. Same thing with Tormail, Silk Road, etc.

That's a pretty cool map. :)

Keep in mind that the distribution of exit nodes is influenced by local laws and how they protect the operators. USA is underrepresented because hosting providers are scared of DMCA complaints, among other things. However, a lot of the operators of exit nodes in other countries are probably American.
