Title: Connection to SR through a dongle?

a friend of mine is accessing his tor via a dongle which has no connection to him and is preapaid.

Anyone has something to say to this? good/ bad?

It is my estimation that the internet connection is not important, tis tor that changes your IP address.

although this is only an estimation.

If a wifi dongle purchased in your name could deanonymize you, then why couldn't a computer purchased in your name?

The MAC address of the network interface is only known to the first router of your internet connection. That is layer 2, the physical addressing layer, of the OSI model:

The internet exists at layers 3 and above. IP addresses are at layer 3, logical addressing, so IP addresses can be broadcast over the internet, but MAC addresses are not. Of course, the purpose of Tor is to mask IP addresses.

Judging by the OP, he means that his friend is using some kind of clearwire or other 4g/WiMAX internet connection, but with a prepaid account/debit card. If I'm right on that, the answer to if it is safe is... still probably yes.
