Hey, I'm curious about other sites that i can access on Tor. I'm familiar with Tor mail. Is there a Tor search engine etc.? Or perhaps of .onion sites somewhere?
Cheers

The Cleaned Hidden Wiki is a good place to start.

whats FRITZL talking about?
Does anyone know how hard it is to start a .onion site? is it similar to running your private server/host?
Any good article or books?

Since you already have tor installed you need only add a line to your config file to create a hidden service domain and point it to a local port. The hard part is making sure your application will not reveal information about your location.

Where can i read up on this in layman terms?
I find the tor sites reading a little dry. Surely somebody translated to colloquial nomenclature. surely!

It's even easier than that with the browser bundle. Go to onion icon -> Settings -> Services -> and enter the target (localhost) and port info. Voila, you have a hidden service right on your desktop (you'll have to install a web server or whatever, though).
