Title: GPG Help please! - "Clipboard" contained no valid encrypted data
Post by: picklemonster2 on November 29, 2012, 10:40 pm
This is a new problem for me as I have been using my GNU privacy assistant just fine. But when I am trying to decrypt a message from SR I get the response "Clipboard contained no valid encrypted data". Can anyone explain this? The encryption looks right to me. However, f I write a message, then encrypt it, then decrypt it right afterwards it works just fine. But retrieiving messages from SR is an issue. I uninstalled and reinstalled the GPG software already too. THanks

Kleo is knowN to be problematic.  I switched over to http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/contact.php and have never looked back.  It is so easy and you can install in on an encrypted  USB drive partition with everything else you use.

Doesn't GPG4USB generate weak keys by default? If you're using it for your own key generation, you need to pick larger bit keys (preferably 4096).

No. You're probably thinking of PortablePGP, which generates DSA/Elgamal 1024/512 by default.  GPG4USB generates RSA 2048/2048 by default, although you can generate larger ones if desired by clicking a button in a drop-down box. If you want to generate an RSA 4096/4096, it just takes 2-3 more mouse clicks.

Guru

Guru is definitely correct.  With those extra clicks, I am running RSA 4096.  ;)

Party Girl's recommendation that you use GPG4USB is a good one -- GPG4WIN, and Kleopatra in particular, are probably responsible for upwards of 95% of the reported problems with PGP on here. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, a post recommending this particular POS is still stickied, so this is frequently the first software recommendation that people encounter.

What (Windows) software do you recommend to the masses and why that over Kleopatra?

My recommendation is in the quote in your post and if you read the thread, Kleo just sucks.   As per my previous quote:  "I switched over to http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/contact.php and have never looked back.  It is so easy and you can install in on an encrypted  USB drive partition with everything else you use."  There is no messed up Kleo in gpg4usb and it is easier to use IMO.
