Hey - where's the thread celebrating Captcha's? Isn't anyone celebrating? I had to respond to a Captcha to post just a minute ago... No More Spam! At least for a while... woo hooo! Thanks, DPR
EDIT 11/29: The fucking bitkoin spammer dude is back. He registered an account and he's posting to the boards. The mods are deleting him and his posts but the fucker is back. And now he's spamming me via PM :o

To captcha's! *tings glass with pc screen*
-
Here's another *ting* of the glass with thanks to SR Admins. Cheers!
-
YAY!
-
alright awsome hopefully we wont See "Free bitcoins with every order at btking.com" (or what ever bs he is currently using) flooding the recent topic section anymore. Thank you DPR
-
Hadn't noticed yet. Maybe there's a minimum post count involved? Great news though! Mainly just happy that mods won't have delete thousands of spam threads one by one anymore.
-
Hail to the SR Gods floating above!
-
Yes, this is a great improvement. Has anyone hacked that spammers site yet?
-
Captchas is the shizzle!! Took me by surprise.. they don't warn you 'bout anything around here.
Is good!
-
NICE !!!
-
Great to see some common sense has prevailed. Seems to be working well at the moment. Nice one SR.

I absolutely hate it. To post, edit, or nearly anything else I have to type more and we all know time is money. There are a number of ways of preventing spam without the use of annoying captchas.
1) Post restrictions based on join date or number of posts in total or made daily
2) Delays such as 30/ 60 seconds between posts
3) More low-level mods who could temp lock the account of a spammer.
4) Make the spammers suffer by forcing captchas on them! After 20-50 legit posts, no more captchas.
While definitely an improvement and useful for the short-term, I would use another solution long-term.
PS: Great. An edit of my OWN post makes me fill out yet ANOTHER captcha! Who is really getting punished here?!?!?! LMAO
-
Slowed spam, not gone.
I think the spammer manually creates an account, then sets a script to keep posting. The captcha has blocked the script and now we get one spam thread at a time. Still a major improvement.
Filter should be set for the spammers domain.
Too easy to bypass, since he can keep iterating on variations of btkoin, b t k o i n, bt koin, bt ko1n, etc., or change the domain. It would be a never-ending arms race to update the filters.
-
Yeah lets hope this will stop these bastards to some extent!
It's funny that they even bother because if you look at just about every post it says 0 views, 0 replies.
Hopefully this works!
-
This is nice :) But I guess the captcha is only till a certain amount of posts? Cause I don't see any.
-
Yeah, don't see any captcha.
-
Woo hoo! No more pages full of irritating bkcoin (and their many other annoying aliases) spam thank-you very much DPR and team. Looking at the members who have mentioned captchas appearing, it would be my logical assumption to think captchas cease when you become a 'Full Member' at 100 posts. It's so refreshing to see our forums (almost) spam free ;D
-
It would be nice to have a confirmation of when these captchas will disappear when something like this is implemented on the forum (unless I missed it). If the number is 100 posts, it should be reduced to 50 or even less. There is no need to penalize those of us following the rules when a total post count of only 25 would have the same effect. If it did not, move it to 50.
Can a mod clarify when these annoying captchas will disappear the majority of us that don't spam?

Party Girl

I'm seeing captchas still so my guess is it's 100 posts.

I'm barely over the 100 post mark and don't have captchas, so I'm assuming that's the cut-off. I don't think it should go any lower - I seem to recall a thread where a spam buster once stated they removed upwards of 2000 spam posts in the course of a night. If you're that dedicated to spamming the board with your scam service, 50 posts really isn't much.

Of course you don't think it should go lower, you don't have to deal with the shit! :) There are a number of other ways and tools which I alluded to which stop the spam as well without using captchas. Especially when you are using SMF as the forum the options are aplenty. I work a good deal with SMF and know this to be true besides DPR has his own programers and could easily make this happen in the long term.
Now here is another thought: Since I paid for a sellers account here, why not disable captchas for sellers from day one?

Thank you DPR and Admins, a massive improvement.

finally!! ;) ;) It was getting pretty annoying coming here and seeing all that btckoin bullshit!

No offense but taking the five extra seconds to fill out a captcha isn't going to cost you any money or time (well about 5 seconds). For all we know this could just be the first step of a long-term solution. I also think 100 post count is fine, seeing as that is when you are considered a full member. It's not hard to get to 100 posts either, all you have to do is be part of the community and you will reach it soon enough. Keep up the good work! Also I just made and order through you PartyGirl.

None taken! I am just saying with my knowledge of SMF forums, this BETTER be a first step. I would have slammed the breaks on also like DPR did being the spamming was becoming epic! However in the long run, I am quite sure they will fine tune it. I just had to get this off my back. One more thing I said was "Now here is another thought: Since I paid for a sellers account here, why not disable captchas for sellers from day one?" I don't see spammers spending $150 for each spam attack. :D
Thanks for the order and it will go out today! Oh wait, another captcha! ;)

I agree with this, but I think there are problems pulling it off. I don't think SR accounts are linked to forum accounts, and it's not necessarily true that a user on one is the same user on the other. I mean, it's mostly true actually, but to the database servers it's not true because there's nothing that makes it true. Two different sites, unless I'm mistaken, and not worth the technical effort.
Oh crap, another captcha! :P
-
Alright, I agree with you now. These Captchas are annoying me more and more. -_-
-
Forums are looking great once again! I don't mind the capcha at all if it means not sifting through page after page of BTC offer spam. Thanks admins!
-
Shit, did I just jinx us? :o

I'm going to start dropping one line replies to get my post count up

Just go into off-topic and give your opinion on everything lol.

I'm happy to see the addition of captcha.

Its probably 100. Same as karma, if you can give karma you aren't a spammer.
