Why can't some sort of spam filters be put into place?

They keep changing their tactics. The only way to stop them is to make more spam mods probably. I think they just did 12 solid pages of spam. Nominate me a spam buster and allow me to deputize people and set up a donation fund for the spam squad. It's not even spam at this point. This is a DDOS attack. The scam probably worked a few times a couple months ago but this is a coordinated attack against the forum.

they need a captcha on every post, its clearly not a person sitting there doing them all manually, try googling btkoin.com n see how many fucking forums this shit is posted to around the web!

Yeah I don't think I would mind a captcha on every post. They need to take some form of measure to stop these spammers tho.

I've seen at least one person who runs a simplemachines forum themselves say it's very easy to stop spam like this, and that the only reason that it wouldn't be done is if someone just didn't care.

I can't really speak to that, personally (never had anything to do with the SMF software), but I hope it isn't true.  I hate to think that's how DPR and the admins here feel.

I almost feel as if we might need more forum mods but i may be wrong.

I agree with this even tho this thread would be deleted XD !

Personally I think the point is that the mods work really hard to delete this spam, and they shouldn't have to.  An admin can change the forum configuration or enable add-ons or plugins or whatever the Hell simplemachines calls the things.

More mods would help, but they shouldn't have to waste their time cleaning up spam when it apparently could be blocked in the first place.

That is true, its a waste of manpower to delete spam when there could be a block in place.

Because then you get 10,000xthreads saying "Hey guys check out this awesome link! Cheap bitcoins!" instead.

I personally wouldn't mind a captcha.

Perhaps we should do a DoS attack on the site?

agreed - if no effective filter can be set up - lets have captchas .
Having to go back trough 8 pages of spam threads to find the newest real posts is really annoying.

Thing is, those other simplemachines forums aren't running on Tor, so they have a much easier time blocking individual users than the SR moderators. I don't even know if you can do that on Tor, as I recall an incident a few weeks ago where EVERYONE was banned from the forums because a mod tried banning a spammer.

The captcha idea seems feasible though, and certainly more moderators wouldn't hurt either.

Fantastic - yesterday I had to go through 9 pages of spam to get to this thread. Now - them spam shit is gone.
Captchas area a annoying but nothing compared to a flood of spam.

Thanks for implementing this.
