Yep, Tor only carries TCP traffic and the tracker queries are usually UDP, so bittorrent programs either fail or silently bypass Tor so as not to break the experience. They also send your IP address in their data. But the biggest reason not to use bittorrent over Tor is that it taxes the network. 3% of Tor users are using bittorrent, but they account for something like 40% of the traffic.
