People were talking about DPR's strange silence back in June of last year. Adrien Chen mentioned it in his Gawker article in July, and 2 days later SR came out with a site redesign. So this isn't anything new. As the marketplace has gotten busier, DPR has gotten quieter on the forum, but he probably working feverishly behind the scenes.
