Shipping / Re: Controlled Delivery on PO Box or Private Mailbox
« on: March 23, 2013, 11:48 pm »
Really good info, karensupreme.

I still maintain that a home or business address is safer than a PO box, because you have to take a positive action to pick something up at a PO box. Unless you go to the PO box every day and get lots of other mail there, it's hard to deny you knew about the package.

Although, I doubt that's much protection anyway. If they intercept a package with a large enough quantity of drugs in it, they will do a controlled delivery and you will get arrested, no matter where the shipping location is. Even if you beat your charges later, it can turn your life upside down.

I have already messaged the mods in the past about this.

The problem is that the 50 posts are not vetted.

What needs to happen is that a person is limited to 5-10 posts per day (that way it takes at least 5 days to hit 50)

Once a person hits 50 posts they then need a mod to manually review their posts before being given permission to use the main forum.

If a persons posts are just junk that's being posted to make the 50 post mark then the posts should be deleted and the person has to start again.

Forum users should be encouraged to report junk posts in the newbie section so as to make the mods job easier to review their posts.

Currently there are posts in the newbie section with titles like "spam your way to 50" if the 50 post rule is to have any useful function then these types of thread have to be stopped.  Unless someone actually reviews the posts then the 50 post rule does little to prevent spammers.

A posting rate limit would be useful, and I've suggested it before, but then people complain that it's too much work to create an account just to leave a review.

Good news! It's isn't, and won't ever be.

Governments will exercise control at the margins, where bitcoins bump into fiat currency. Governments print fiat currency and will always control it, so buying bitcoins with fiat currency will be regulated. That's expected.

If we can get to place where people are paid in bitcoins, and can buy everything they need in bitcoins, there's  not much governments can do to control that.

That was a good article. Almost as good as the British GQ article.

I see no reason to "fly below the radar". SR was on the radar a long time ago and the technology behind it has proven to be effective at protecting SR and us. Every media report increases the size of the community with no proportional increase in the threats against us, so these media reports are beneficial overall. They lead to new customers, new vendors, and new products. We all win.

Only visit that link over Tor.

... So, you're trying to... fake your fucking dissertation research?  ... okay then: may they rip your lies apart and toss you out without a degree when you defend it in front of committee.

LOL, if I could +1 you, I would.

tldr; Run or fund more Tor nodes.

And use Tor as much as possible to legitimize it.

Maybe SR is just pulling their own BTC value from a different exchange not listed here though: http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/ - in which case it's a site-wide problem because everyone is being charged a higher BTC value than it actually is. Where does SR pull their current value from? Is there anywhere we can view it?

Mtgox weighted average. Mtgox.com

When BTC is rising in value, the MtGox weighted average over any time period will be lower than the current price.

Jesus, that really sucks.  It seems they are just after the $10,000 deposits / day and over crowd.. . but still. .  .
making BTC tracable was bound to happen sometime.   Now there will be a NEW black market opportunity in selling anonymous bitcoins for cash.  I can see it now, cash for bitcoins in the mail operations everywhere.

It's good and bad news. The bad news is that it will get harder to buy bitcoins anonymously. The good news is that mainstream business will be more confident in adopting bitcoin as a payment option now that the US gov has affirmed that it is legal. It wasn't illegal before, but the US gov had not taken an official position on it. That legal uncertainty scared away mainstream businesses and organizations. For example, the EFF accepted bitcoin for a while in 2011 but stopped, they said, because its legal status was uncertain. More businesses will accept bitcoin now, which will drive up adoption.

On the other hand, this legitimizes bitcoin for us. If only drug buyers use bitcoin, then buying bitcoins is suspicious. But if lots of people use bitcoin for lots of reasons, there's nothing suspicious about buying it.

Well technically buyers joining hands to boycott wouldn't be a cartel. And it wouldn't work because due the nature of drugs, you are not factoring the fiending/craving/addictions etc.
The vendor cartels can sit on a high price. A group of buyers might attempt a boycott, but you'd better believe that someone in that group will give in and place an order (even at the price they're boycotting)for reasons that will trump their principled stance.. you know?

^ Exactly, I tried to get a boycott going against buying off Aussie vendors, whom I suspect of also forming a cartel type arrangement.

The response I got was exactly what I expected - Dismal. People are too apathetic and self-absorbed these days to bother standing together to fight against a common enemy. It's why the governments of the world tread all over us with little effort on their part. We almost tread on ourselves.

This is all true. Drug buyers don't exercise as much discretion as they should, and they tend to excuse and reward bad behavior, but as long as you don't, they can't hurt you.

Currently there are 10.93 million BTC.
And there is a bankrun developing in the EU. If only 2% of Europeans want to buy one BTC each...that's as many as there are.
BTC will see the 3-digit range rather soon as this is a gigantic paradigm shift.
Hold on to it and buy every correction.

BTC adoption is skyrocketing in Spain right now. Apparently they are afraid what happened in Cyprus will happen to them.

It's hard to predict the aggregate decisions of millions of people, which is why you are likely to lose money day trading, but as an overall trend, I agree with you. Many factors are combining, from fiscal mismanagement in Europe to the affirmed legal status of bitcoin in America, which make me believe BTC will be over $100 soon.

This has been verified a number of times to my own satisfaction, as well.  I agree wholeheartedly with OP.  I use KeePass religiously, but whatever you do, don't use the same password for all your sites.  If you're a HBB user, and your pw and username match anything else, go change it, time now.  +1 to the OP.

You are so full of shit.

Did you search for your receiving address on blockchain.info? Does it show the transaction? Does the transaction have any confirmations?

If they were going to kick down your door, they wouldn't wait hours to do it and give you a chance to slip out the back or consume the drugs. They would storm your house within minutes.

If it's been a couple of hours, you're fine.

Edit: In fact, if you picked it up at the post office, they wouldn't give you a chance to leave the parking lot.
