Silk Road discussion / Re: Epic bitcoin crash incoming?

And $102. Making it look easy.

I saw a massive wall at $100 earlier. People see those and think, "that many bitcoins have to be purchased to break through", but those walls are dynamic. Sell orders can be withdrawn. When people see the trade price approaching their sell price, they think, "if there's that much buying interest, why sell these for $100 when I can sell them for $105?". Trade walls can melt away very fast, and indeed that one did.

Minutes ago we hit a new high of $99.99. :)

I think today is the day that we break $100. April Fucking Fools day. Is that an omen?

Oh I see. You can use bridges to hide your Tor use from a local observer. If exit nodes are blacklisted by the destination site, you can point TBB at any open web proxy. Usually there's a high turnover rate and new ones pop up all the time, so they are less likely to be blacklisted.

Try some of these: http://www.publicproxyservers.com

As an example, USA nodes start here: http://www.publicproxyservers.com/proxy/list_country7.html

So recently I gave tails a shot. HOLY SHIT I LOVE TAILS. Actally, they both have their pros and cons I'm finding. But even with Tails, I can't seem to figure out how to make a persistant volume!

I've only played around with both, haven't used either for an extended period of time, but it seems to be the consensus among people who have that Tails is easier to use and less buggy.

LONG ago, a very generous member wrote a step by step guide on how to properly install Liberte on USB (this inclded a persistant volume). I followed this individuals instructions during serveral subsequent upgrades without fail. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I cannot find these instructions.

Maybe it was Guru? He left the forum and deleted all his posts.

If anyone out there is knowledgeable and capable of explaining how to creat a persistant volume on EITHER liberte or Tails (preferably), you have my gratitude friend.

It's fairly easy and explained in their documentation.

https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/persistence/configure/index.en.html

Applications -> Tails -> Configure persistent storage.

Let me know if it fails at some step.

I'm really really digging tails btw. SOOOO much faster. I'm missing the gpa that Liberte has, but I managed to get whatever version Tails has to work, but it took a minute for me to become accustomed to it.

Also consider that Liberte is developed by one guy and it hasn't been updated since last September. Tails has a team of people behind it, and gets bug/security fixes and new features on a monthly basis.

Security / Re: Best way to buy large amounts of BTC?
« on: April 01, 2013, 01:43 am »
sleepyeyes2k2, I use Blockchain's "Shared Send" feature.  It takes 0.5% as opposed to Bitcoin Fog's 1-3% (which I always calculated to be closer to 3 than 1  ::) ).  It works just as well (breaking the "taint" of the coins).

And +1 to you for your comment about that douche (-1 to him)... I've been clicking "Report to Moderator" all day trying to get rid of that eyesore.  >:(

I wonder if blockchain.info's implementation is too predictable. You send coins to an address, blockchain.info subtracts 0.5%, and 5-30 minutes later, two deposits are made to another address. Technically there is no taint between them, but if an attacker was trying to find the source of funding and worked his way back to an address that had two deposits made to it, usually something like 3.213261 and 6.73674, which adds up to a rounder number, in this case 9.95, then he could look for transactions preceding this within a certain time frame in the block chain, and if he sees a number that's exactly 0.5% more, in this case 10.0 BTC, well there it is.

Bitcoin Fog's implementation seems safer, because the fee is randomized, and you can specify a variable number of addresses to withdraw to and the amount of time to do it in. You can wait 7 days and withdraw to 5 addresses over 24 hours, for example. It's much harder to track that down, as long as you don't consolidate the coins again.

And by religions, I meant denominations, because Christianity has never had competition in America.

Without an official state-sanctioned religion or denomination (like Lutheranism in Norway and the Anglican Church in England, for example), people were more free to form splinter denominations, and the most persuasive ones (not necessarily for rational reasons) got more popular. The result is a more religious populace.

Adding to the list, :)

Another theory says that state-sponsorship of religion killed it in Europe. It became "religious socialism". Meanwhile, in America, there was a healthy competition among religions and memes that were the most persuasive in getting people to believe in them (through fear, guilt, and more recently "love bombing" type strategies).

You're not going to get good advice on the SR forums. The advice you get here, or anywhere else for that matter, is worth what you pay for it, nothing. You want good advice? You want someone to take care of this smuggling operation for you? Hook up with some professionals, and pay them well.

Depends on the topic. That might be true of smuggling, but as a counter example, all the research on anonymity is conducted by academics and white/gray hat hackers, and openly published. Most of the people selling anonymity "guides" are scammers. You can find all the info for free, and in some cases the paid advice is dangerous.

A few months ago, multiple people came on the forum and asked about increasing entry guards to 8. Apparently someone was selling a guide with that information. Yeah, you don't always get what you pay for.

Prosecutors are the most gleeful assholes when it comes to throwing sick people in cages instead of treatment, and ruining the lives of people who have harmed no one.

This place works great without cops.   Cops don't need to be everywhere , just in places they are wanted   :-)

Right, the War on Drugs is a massive misappropriation of LE resources. That being said, there's a lot of hate on LE, but not enough on the people who make the laws.

I had to look up what vip72 is. Apparently some kind of proxy/VPN service. So I assumed he's trying to hide his Tor connection. There are easier, cheaper (free), and more effective ways to do it. :)

Silk Road discussion / Re: Torchat with Tor Browser Bundle
« on: March 31, 2013, 08:43 pm »
In what sense? TorChat includes Tor, so there's nothing to configure.

You actually don't want TorChat to use TBB's Tor and entry guards, since TorChat turns you into a hidden service. You don't want to mix circuits between your TorChat hidden service and your TBB activities. There's a reason why all hidden services running on the same host get their own entry guards.

Some bitcoin merchants have already moved to mBTC. SR should eventually do the same.
