Security / Re: Recommend a new email service like Tor Mail?
« on: May 06, 2013, 04:06 pm »
I was wondering if there was interest in an email service like Tormail, but it would be a paid service, like $10 or $20 a year.

The purpose of that is, if I'm getting paid, I have incentive to keep the site running in top shape, and it prevents massive account creation, overloading the server, which I'm sure is part of the problem with Tormail.

It just comes up with a black screen with a blue box with the following error message:

"The selected boot device failed. Press <Enter> to continue."

Not sure what kind of error that is, but just in case, do you have EFI disabled?

If the site starts slowing down for you again, or you can't reach it, restart your TorBrowser.

Usually that's useless advice, but it actually helps this time.

Protip: If the site starts slowing down for you, or you can't reach it, restart your TorBrowser.

Usually that's useless advice, but I think in this case it will help.

Given that Mexicans are the ones dealing with the dead bodies in the current arrangement, little wonder that they're able to appreciate the irrationality more than America's mystifyingly persistent drug warriors.

That pretty much nails it.

If your identity is known at the exchange, then it doesn't matter what denominations you send the coins in, they can be linked to you.

Zerocoin looks very promising, because

1. It offers true anonymity by design, where it is possible for you to be the only person in the world who knows that 2 txns / coins are linked. Current mixing services offer security by policy, where they promise to delete the accounting details linking coins going in and coins coming out of their wallets.

2. It will be cheap. Currently, anonymizing coins can take anywhere from 1.5% to over 10% in overhead fees. Presumably, because Zerocoin transactions are larger than normal Bitcoin transactions, miners will demand a higher fee, but it might be something like .005 BTC instead of the standard .0005 BTC. So you will be able to anonymize any amount of money for 50 cents.

For a detailed explanation of Zerocoin, see this thread: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=152682.msg1057894#msg1057894

In other words, you just need a proxy, or VPN, or public wifi hot spot.

As examples, Tor and SSH provide SOCKS5 proxies. So your question is more about, where can I get a shell account?

There are no other email hidden services that interface with clearnet the way Tormail does.

However, if you use Tor and PGP, then you can use any clearnet email provider that allows you to create an account over Tor. I know that outlook.com, mail.yahoo.com and safe-mail.net allow you do this.

Due to all the noobs, and the explosion growth of SR. I think aswell as a couple other member. SR should go to invite only.
Some guide lines I thought of.

This goes against SR's broader mission, which is to give people the freedom to trade.

Law enforcement agencies have some of the most shameless PR departments you will ever see.

lokiju, what you are describing is called an anonymizing middle box, and it's pretty much the safest setup you can have, because even if someone / malware roots your main computer, they would not be able to find your IP address.

Here is some info on how to do it.

Atlantis has a long way to go... They spent way too much time on making it pretty and not enough on making it easy to use...

They didn't spend any time making it look pretty. Atlantis uses a web framework called Bootstrap: http://twitter.github.io/bootstrap/

So does Sheep marketplace (sheep5u64fi457aw.onion). Some people claim they are run by the same person because they look similar. No, they just use the same web framework with the same basic theme.

blockchain.info also uses Boostrap. Notice how the buttons and other elements look similar on all three sites?

How is the Atlantis difficult to use? It has the same basic functionality as SR, plus sort by price. :)

Goddamn I've been trying to post this for 15 minutes.

Anyway, I can confirm that the same circuit (to the forum) stays open even when I don't interact with it for many minutes.

I haven't been able to connect to the SR server yet to test that out.

Interesting. So it seems both the intro points and the web server are under attack.
