Security / Re: HELP with gpg4usb PLEASE!!??

Are you on Windows 8 by any chance? That's the second thought that comes to mind. The browser bundle didn't work on Win8 when it first came out, so programs built for Win7 are not always compatible with Win8, apparently. Has anyone successful run GPG4USB and imported keys on Win8?

Sure, send me one of the keys that made it crash, although if multiple keys are doing it, that's bad.

If you can get them imported without the GUI, that's a crappy workaround at least. Maybe you will still be able to use them to encrypt your address in the GUI. Otherwise, I don't know honestly. You'll have to use a different PGP program.

I can look into if other people are experiencing consistent crashes, but I haven't heard of that before.

In case you don't know how to get the command prompt to that folder, I think in the file manager, when you're in that folder, you can right click and there should be an option to "open the command prompt here" or something like that. It's been forever since I've seen that though.

Have you tried many different keys and it's happening with all of them, or it just happens with one key?

My first thought is that the key is too big to import, or it's malformed somehow and causing the crash. Would you mind PMing it to me so I can take a look at it?

Alternatively, you could try importing without the GUI. Open a command prompt and go to the folder where you extracted GPG4USB. There should be a subfolder called bin. In that subfolder will be a program called gpg.exe.  That's the actual gpg program.

Save the key in that folder, in a text file called whatever.asc. Then at the command prompt, while you're in that folder, type:

  gpg.exe --import whatever.asc

It'll either import properly or if it fails, it should print an error message.

Copy the error message and paste it here.

Is it crashing when you click the import key button, or when you actually try to import the key?

Off topic / Re: Time for DPR to select new mods?
« on: June 19, 2013, 07:07 pm »
If someone doxed you, would you be ok if the mods refused to remove it because they didn't want to censor anyone?

In this case your freedom to do with your speech what you want will harm both the place where you provide it and both other people's freedoms. It is not the free speech that is unacceptable in this case, but it is the fact that you with your rights did harm other ones. If however your act doesn't harm anybody else's rights it is a totally arbitrary act (and harming another's individual freedom) to remove the right of doing with your property (i.e. your voice in this case) what you want with it.

It's still censorship. So we agree there are acceptable grounds for censorship.

Harming others is one of them. The thing is, "harm" is pretty broad concept.

Doxing may harm someone by getting them in legal trouble. But what about verbally abusing them? What about spreading lies to ruin their reputation? What about publishing racist ideas that alter people's behavior to whole groups of people? What about trolls who destroy a thriving online community?

Of course, the only acceptable definitions of harm are the ones you personally believe, and if others think other things are harmful they are wrong.

Security / Re: Tor problems
« on: June 19, 2013, 06:25 pm »
Actually, if the firewall was blocking Tor, there should be no circuits that say Open, Closed, or anything. It would say <path> instead, with no relays listed. So it's likely he is connected to the Tor network.

coglac, this will take forever if you give us one data point per day. I'd like you to go through a list of things and answer all the questions below. If you're doing this on a different computer, write all this down.

First, as kmf suggested, make sure the time AND time zone are correct. On Win8 you should be able to use the search function to search for "change time" and the option will come up. If they are wrong, change the time zone first, then change the time. If the time is right but the time zone is wrong, then when you correct the time zone, the time will be wrong. Make sure they are both right before moving on. Also, check the option to "synchronize to network time server" or something like that.

Open these and have them ready:

onion icon -> Network Map

onion icon -> Message Log -> Advanced tab

1. In TorBrowser, try to access google.com.  If it connected, great. Move to step 2.

If it didn't, look in the Message Log. Are there any error messages? What are they? Write the whole error message down and post it here.

Then, try to access google.com again, but watch the Network Map. Do you see a lot of circuits that are Failed? What words do you see for the circuits? The options will be Building, Open, Connecting, Closed, Failed.

2. In TorBrowser, try to access this forum. If it connected, obviously problem solved (probably the time issue).

If it didn't, look in the Message Log. Are there any error messages? What are they? Write the whole error message down and post it here.

Then, try to access the forum again, but watch the Network Map. Do you see a lot of circuits that are Failed? What words do you see for the circuits? The options will be Building, Open, Connecting, Closed, Failed.

Timezone shouldn't matter since all Tor clients operate on GMT, but yeah the clock could be wrong because it's set to GMT and he entered the local time.

coglac, so what happens to those circuits when you try to access a web site? Keep the Network Map open and go to google.com in TorBrowser. Again, you should see Open, Connecting, Closed or Failed. What words do you see?

Well, it may have made the DNS request before you exited, and of course that failed. So at worst you got a DNS leak.

It is extremely unlikely anything will come of that.

I have been trying to load up a VM on tails. As in keep the files for whonix on my harddrive than move them over to tails than load up whonix on that.

Any Advice on how to get a VM running up on tails would be great.

So you want to run Whonix inside Tails?  I swear if you hang out on this forum long enough, you'll hear everything. :)

Why do you want to do this? What benefit do you think it will give you, that for example, running Whonix on your main OS, where the virtual hard disks are already stored, won't give you?

It *may* be possible. If you log in through the admin option, you may be able to install VirtualBox from the Debian repos. I honestly don't know, because I've never heard of anyone doing this, and Tails does some nonstandard things, like with networking and filesystem mounting, and possibly kernel modules, so I don't know if VirtualBox will work. I don't know if it will require special configuration, and what that would be.

In order to use VirtualBox, you'll have to instal the kernel modules, and I don't know if that's possible.

What exactly does a Controlled Delivery consist of? How do they get the Information necessary, to know your getting drugs sent In the mail?

They could randomly select it for inspection (least likely), the package could look suspicious, or they are tipped off about it.

There are stickied threads in the Shipping section that discuss stuff like what looks suspicious to postal inspectors. There's also a thread in the Newbie section about that. All well worth a read.

Quote
Can this happen through only buying domestic since It won't need to go through customs? Also how would this work at a post office?

Yes, any of these options could happen to domestic mail, but they are less likely than when the package goes through customs

Well, you seem to have some mental issues yourself, astor.  Are you really following Princess and I around trying to find out if we are responding to each other's posts? You seem to be a bit starved for compliments astor, it is pretty depressing to watch you puppy-dog around on our heels astor. Find a hobby or get some help. You obviously need it pal.

I'm not getting into a bullshit drama trash talking session with you.

And of course I'm not following you around. I've randomly encountered it enough times to notice.

What point you're trying to raise astor? What relevance does it bear to the subject of this thread? I do not 'cheerlead' every post Raz makes, however if he posts something I agree with I'll voice my support, I'll do the same with any member I concur with. When you agree with someone does it make you their cheerleader? I believe showing your support for someone or something you believe in is healthy and not 'mental', this is a wide and varied forum where we should respect the differentials of opinion than discrediting them.

And there's Princess, proving my point...

Neither one of you saw this thread for 2 days, but you showed up and posted within 20 minutes of each other.
