Title: Help!
Post by: anarcho47 on December 11, 2011, 04:39 am
I have a serious issue with a buyer.  This is a copy of the message I just sent to SR admin.  Not exactly sure what to do about this particular buyer, but if any seller out there has run across a similar situation/Modus Operandi, please share:

"I have a buyer who has leveled accusations against me for "hacking his account" and stealing all of his bitcoins.

He ordered my 1oz bc cyans, and about ten minutes after I happened to have marked the item "in transit" (I was on my way out the door to the post office), messages me and says "CANCEL DO NOT SHIP", claiming his receiving address was unsafe.

I said okay, that's fine, if you want I can just hold off shipping and set the package aside and if you manage to send me new shipping information in a couple of days I will repackage and get it out the door.  If not I will cancel the order for you.

About an hour later, I notice that this order has been finalized.  The BTC are sitting in my account, and the buyer then asks me to refund the money he just finalized and offers for me to keep 10% of it for the fact I had to package everything up (And I had stamps on the envelope which are a bit of a bitch to get off since they aren't lick-and-sticks anymore).  I refunded him 95%, and said thanks for the few BTC for my time.

Several hours later I get another message.  This one says "Why did you send me 60 BTCs and withdraw them? and what happened to the 30 i had? send them back or i'm reporting you to the silk road admin."

I'm at a loss.  I responded to this guy with all of his transaction details and he somehow seems to think that I hacked his account and have taken all of his money.  Please contact him and explain that this is not something possible by simply having a transaction with a seller, and that your buyer account login and password aren't magically transferred to a seller along with your BTC.  It's the only negative feedback I have had in two or three months and I'm not particularly pleased to see something like this on my page.

Anarcho47"

Anybody run across an accusation or behavior similar to this?

Sounds like he was phished at a time that coincided with your transaction and since getting phished can't possibly be the buyer's fault (sarcasm) he *must* have been "hacked".

I'm confident the SR admin will look at the transactions and withdrawals and determine what occured.

Sorry to hear about your situation... It definitely sounds like a buyer blaming you for their own problem. They may actually just be too ignorant to even realize what actually happened. Unfortunately you still transferred the money back which was then stolen. In my opinion, not your fault for their account being insecure.

However, I think I have heard of this same tactic before. Vendors should be aware that phishers are using this method and be skeptical when buyers claim their order must be canceled for some reason. Although you may irritate some customers this way as well, but the package could have just been out of your hands already.

He got phished, the phisher got you to refund the order and bailed with the cash. Not your fault at all, I had learned that lesson the hard way too when Mt Gox got hacked. But just be polite and say sorry nothing I can do advise him to contact SR admin, and move on don't let it eat at you. Also on your seller page explain why the bad review from a recent transaction. Also sellers should take the advice of once marked in transit thats it. That way it may help them not be out the sale. If it's an address correction as far as 24 instead of 42 k street fine but a whole nother state or country nope and no cancellation once marked in transit.

Even though it says not to on the front page i bet a lot of people still use the hidden wiki link.
