Title: A place for buyers to post their PGP public key
Post by: RabidDog on October 13, 2011, 03:41 am
I like that buyers don't have profiles but it would probably be useful for vendors they correspond with to see their public key.

This is a great idea. It would be great if, for both buyers and sellers, there was a link when sending PMs that would display their PGP public key. While most sellers put it in their profile sometimes it is in the listing. And buyers have no place to put other than inserting it in message after message.

Yes that would be great if the PGP key were shown right below the text input field when writing a message.

A public key shouldn't necessarily be posted publicly.  I'd prefer it only be available to vendors I deal with directly or people I choose to correspond with via PM.  A public pgp key is a private thing, yes, but if someone were to do an analysis of your computer they could look at your public/private keypairs and see that a public key matched up to a given identity.

That's a bit long-winded but I am just saying we should have a way to show our public keys only to those whom we really want to know.

maybe some feature when you send your address after buying an item, you could choose to send your public key along or not.

I think an 'opt-in' page for it would be cool.

it wouldn't be too crazy to implement - you just have a simple form that preloads your username into the user field (unable to change this), and you paste your public key.  You have it correlate to a directory page (you would probably need one page per letter of the alphabet and 1 for usernames that begin with numbers).  On the page would be hyperlinks of each username, opening up a page with just the public key there.  Kind of like a phone book for PGP.

I don't bother with the PGP forum posts because there are so many usernames throughout it with no real rhyme or reason it take ten minutes just to track down someone's username (and that's IF they are posted there).

Just a thought.  SR Phonebook or something like that.  Only for people comfortable with throwing their public key up there.

yeah, I just use tails and firegpg .... only have two files I need, got my public--and private--pgp keys in one file, {and all the other junk I might need: site url's, passwords, in a keepassx file ... )  Get'em quickly after booting Tails up...keep those two hidden, of course, and tails erases everything fast when you log out...

I've changed my key pair a couple times since that big thread was started on here, and now I don't want/need it there...firegpg is fairly easy to use, and I've got an addy ready to go with my public key tagged on the back, just copy that and encrypt it for whoever I need it for....

Yeah, that public posting just made me uncomfortable...the less links to 'me' on here, the better...any friend or vendor needs it, they just gotta whistle...
