In the whole country. Sedex just stopped.

http://londrina.odiario.com/londrina/noticia/491421/sedex-e-paralisado-apos-um-dia-de-greve-dos-correios-em-londrina/

Headline: Sedex is stopped after one day of postal strike at Londrina/PR (Paraná, south)

First headline
http://www.ojornalweb.com/2011/09/15/em-greve-correios-suspendem-tres-servicos/
headline: In strike, Correios (the State postal service) cancel 3 services (Sedex Hoje(SedexToday), Sedex10 and Disque Coleta (gatheringphone). The 3 best services.

http://news.google.com.br/ just type "correio greve sedex" (post office, strike sedex) and use Google Translator http://translate.google.com.br/

The strike has already affected deliveries around all the country, even for Sedex10 (the most expensive and faster service).

Fuck!

Moreover, last wednesday was Independence Day (07/09). When a holiday happens in the middle of the week, public servants try to not work all the week. We call it "emend the holiday".

So, the shipments must will have a delay.

In some states, like São Paulo, 70% of the employees joined the strike. 40% of the total deliveries was affected. 1,5 million objects are stopped.

Brazil’s post network in partial shutdown as workers strike
Friday, September 16th, 2011
Brazilian postal workers have gone on strike this week, after talks over a new collective bargaining agreement failed.

Industrial action officially began on Wednesday, with Brazil’s Post and Telegraph Company (ECT) stating yesterday that a partial shutdown affecting operations in about two-thirds of the ECT network.

On average, about 32% of the company’s work force have gone on strike, topping out at about 40% in some areas.

ECT has responded by recruiting non-union personnel, reallocating non-striking staff and increasing overtime.

The company has suspended its guaranteed-by-10am express service SEDEX 10 and its same-day express service SEDEX Hoje, as well as its home collection service Disque-Coleta.

Other services including international services may experience delivery delays, the company said.

Yesterday, ECT president Wagner Pinheiro de Oliveira insisted the company could maintain a daily delivery of letters and parcels, but warned of the possibility of delays.

Pinheiro said talks would not resume on the collective bargaining agreement until union members returned to work.

He called on employees to end the strike

The ECT president said his company had offered a 13% pay increase in its final offer for a unit that represents around 64,427 employees, or just over 60% of the total workforce.

Unions have said the pay rise was actually a 7% increase in salary, a, 8.7% increase in food stamps and a bonus of R$800 ($466 USD).

The state-owned postal company pointed out that its mid-level employees currently receive a base salary of R$807.29 ($472 USD) per month, but with benefits this rate could be as high as R$1,600 ($935 USD).

The ECT proposal has been withdrawn following the strike.

Pinheiro said: “At the current juncture, where there is concern about the international financial crisis, we believe that an adjustment of 13% in the minimum wage is quite appropriate.

“We can only regret the decision (to strike) and call the workers to return to their activities,” the ECT president added.

The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Fedraban) has been advising consumers to make use of direct debit facilities and other electronic services to avoid disruption of payments during the postal strike.

Brazilian postal workers on strike
16/09/2011
Brazil
Brazilian postal workers went on strike September 14 after failed collective bargaining.

Postal workers throughout Brazil went on strike September 14. The national strike was approved after unsuccessful negotiations. The workers claim the lost wages of 24% plus $ 400.00 for real adjustment. The post office’s proposal, which did not reflect workers demands, was 6.87% of the inflationary losses over the last year with $ 50.00 real gain. Workers also protested against the poor working conditions. According to Rogério Ubine, FENTECT Secretary for International Relations and Vice President of UNI Post And Logistics Americas, they are protesting the categorization of new hires and labor guarantees that have not been granted in the new postal law. Rogerio says: “The Brazilian government does not want to give real adjustment for fear of the crisis, but the post office and the country grow then we distribute wealth through the earnings of workers. At the same time we need to have guarantees on labor law changes to be implemented.

If you use a courier like DHL Express or Fedex, the brazilian strike will not affect your order. Maybe one day of delay because of the excess of demand, but just it.

Well, if you live in Sampa or Rio, I think that's okay. If you live in countryside, like me, the package is routed for a lot of cities before to arrive in yours, and take a long time. Usually, at least a month, if you are lucky.

Besides that, here is the country of corruption and disorganization, so don't be surprise if the mail man stole your package or if it disappears (if it is not trackable). It happened with me twice.

I'm having some troubles buy in silkroad because sellers don't want to use a courier (I understand them) like DHL Express or Fedex and buy by regular mail is not a choice for me anymore, even with a trustful seller
